Theshowpiece of theweekend is undoubtedlythe PaddyPowerGold Cup, which gets under waythisafternoon at 2.15pmovertwo miles and four furlongs.The likesofImperialCommander and Al Ferofhave wonthe race down theyears,with theSue Smith-trained MidnightShadowtaking last year’s title– followedclosely in second by Protektorat. Thereisplentyofactionoffthe tracktoo,includingaperformance from theGot 2Sing Choir, live musicfromLucky 15’s throughoutthe dayand a performancefromthe ChipShop Boys afterracinginThe Centaur.

Today’sactivationofLoveOur Turf willfocus primarilyonEvesham Road whileduringthe Festival,the campaign will spread to incorporatemoreroutes includingAlbertRoad,Tommy Taylors and Paddocks Lane.Eachofthese recognisedroutestoand from theracecourse will be promoted withthe use of wayfinding ushers, enhancedstreet cleaningwithmorebinsand increased toilet facilities.

If youare travelling by car and exiting the racecourse via the Hall of Fame exit ontoEvesham Road youwill not be able to turn left when the Road closureisinplace. You will be directed to turn right. Evesham Road (southbound) will be closed from 4pm until around 7pm. This is part of our trial of the road closureahead of TheFestival. We appreciate your patienceand cooperation with this.

In addition to the usual road closureonthe A435 Southbound from Smiths Lights to the Racecourse (closed between 1000 –1330 &1630–2000), we have decided to trial the closureofEvesham Road to southbound traffic on Saturday, in order to ensurequicker and safer egress forour racegoers, following the final race.The road will be closed Southbound from 4pm until “around” 7pm. This is the main routethatruns from the racecourse roundabout intothe centreoftown. TheclosureonEvesham Road ends half way down Pitville Park. Vehicles can continue to drive up (North) Evesham Road as the road will be divided by aphysical barrier.Stewardswill be in placetoassistand ensurethe closurecauses minimal disruption forall.

JCR is taking strong action againsttouts. Touting is seen by some as alegitimate way of buying or selling lastminutetickets but manytickets sold by touts arefraudulent or counterfeit. An injunction has been issued preventing touting at the Racecourse Youcouldyourself be breaking the lawby dealing with atout. Genuine tickets sales are available at all the entrances or in advancevia the Racecourse website.

Racehorse &JockeyWelfare

Thewelfareofthe sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing.

All racehorses trained in Britain arestabled at the premises licensed by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA). Thestandards demanded by BHA of licensed racehorse trainers farexceed those prescribed by animal welfarelegislation.

Similarly,BHA licenses every racecourse, setting high standards forthe racing surfaceand all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine.BHA Officials and Cheltenham Racecourse staff work in conjunction to ensurethatthe higheststandards are met. In addition Cheltenham Racecourse employs eight veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide careto the horses throughout their time at the racecourse

In the event of an incident on the racecourse,any horse affected will receive immediate attention and treatment from the racecourse’sveterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors arealso on hand in the case of anyincident involving ajockey

If anyincident occurs during araceitis routine practicefor screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allowthe veterinary or medical personnel to makeasafeand accurate diagnosis and so thattheymay perform anytreatment in aprivateand calm environment. If necessary,horses and riders will be transported from the course to receivefurther treatment at the most appropriate equine hospital or Accident & Emergencyhospital.
