THE JOCKEY CLUB

WELCOMES YOU

Welcome back to Cheltenham Racecourse for the second day of this year’s Showcase meeting!

We loved seeing so many of you back here yesterday for the opener to our 2022/23 season and we’ve got another fantastic afternoon of racing and entertainment planned today. The first of today’s official seven-race card gets underway at 1.30pm with the 888sport Novices’ Hurdle, but before that we’re giving you the chance to see the stars of the future with two pony races taking place on the track. The first of these goes off at 12pm with the second at 12.30pm and they are both sure to be a real treat.

At 4.25pm the Jim Wilson Memorial Novices’ Steeple Chase will get underway, a race held in memory of the Gold Cup winning rider who sadly passed away in August at the age of 72. Jim’s connection to Cheltenham was prolific – having achieved the rare feat of riding, owning and training a winner at The Festival. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who are supporting today’s card, including The Dragon TV & Film Studios, Racing Welfare, 888Sport, Masterson Holdings, Pertemps and Spirax Sacro. We wish you all a wonderful day here with us. Off the track we have a whole host of activities going on to keep you entertained, with the Hipcats providing music throughout the day and local band The Shadow Monkeys taking to the stage in the Centaur after racing at 5.15pm. Throughout the day we will also be celebrating and showcasing the wonderful world of racehorse ownership by providing a fascinating insight into what it is like to be the proud owner of an equine star. In the Hall of Fame, a syndicate village has been set-up, with racing clubs and syndicates on hand to talk to you about the fun and thrill of being involved in owning a racehorse. Among other things there will be ownership talks, a virtual reality ownership experience, the opportunity to meet an ex-racehorse and competitions galore. We really hope you enjoy this special afternoon with us – I am sure it will be a day which will set the scene for an exciting season to come here at Cheltenham Racecourse.
