Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse
Today marks the seventh renewal of The Chelmsford City Cup, a 10-furlong Class 2 handicap race with £45,000 in prize money on offer. As expected, this has attracted a competitive field of ten runners, featuring some of the best handicappers vying for this prestigious prize.
To celebrate our “10 Years of Community” fundraising campaign, we are hosting a charity gala lunch today. During this event, we will raise funds for our ten chosen charities, with all profits going to each of them. We are also pleased to welcome Councillor Jannetta Sosin, the Mayor of Chelmsford, and Paralympian and broadcaster Steve Brown as our special guests this afternoon.
I hope you have a wonderful day and enjoy the racing and the music that will follow in the Level Head sunken terrace from 5:20pm.
Neil Graham Racing Director

Timeform Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
You must be 18 or over to place a bet

AMORA QUEEN looked a serious prospect when scoring easily on debut at Doncaster in June, and stepping up in trip can bring about further improvement as she looks to overcome a 7lb penalty. Al Shabab Spirit struggled first time out at Ascot, but his stable are in top form at present and the son of Gleneagles may have a say, while Loblolly is the pick of the remainder.

This can go the way of TYGER BAY, who had a subsequent winner in second when scoring at Kempton last month. A 2lb rise could prove lenient for the son of Cable Bay, and he is preferred to Daytona Lady, who was well behind the selection on that occasion before improving to finish third at Southwell most recently. A highly-creditable second at Wolverhampton, Master Dandy is another to consider, along with Poetic Jack.

TYGER BAY capitalised on a reduced mark when scoring at Kempton recently for his fifth course and distance success there and remains well treated for this similar test. Poetic Jack showed a return to form when third at Yarmouth and could be dangerous if allowed to dictate from the front. River Alwen is a C&D winner who should not be underestimated having won at Lingfield two starts ago. Fihrayn made the frame at Kempton last month and is noted, but SENSE OF REASON gets the vote. Charlie Fellowes’ four-year-old has taken the silver medal home the last twice and with Mikkel Mortensen claiming a handy 5lb this time around, he could be the one to beat.

Capuchinero sprung a 33/1 surprise when making it two wins from her last three starts at Kempton last month and it would be foolish to dismiss her, but the vote goes to SUZUKA. Roger Varian’s filly failed to live up to market expectations when fourth at Epsom last time, but was dropped 2lb subsequently and could take a step forward on just her fourth handicap outing. Bun Bang Fai is another to watch out for.
