Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse

To get us into the festive spirit, we have a nine race card for you this evening on the first of our three December fixtures, after which you can make your way to the Sports Bar to listen to Christmas carols and to dance the night away to our resident DJ. There are also extended opening hours tonight and a festive drinks menu, plus if you are dining in the Club Restaurant there is live music.

The racing begins at 4.30pm and, with ninety three declared runners across the nine races, there should be some great racing and thrilling finishes. There are the last three qualifiers for the “Timeform Sprint Series” this evening, before we stage the final of this series on our last fixture of the year with a total prize money of £40,000 up for grabs.

The remaining six races all have large fields, so finding winners will be a tough task but I wish you the best of luck and hope you have a great evening.

For more information about any of our upcoming events please visit chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

Trainer

Timeform Rating

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet

Beach Partee beat Solar Invincible by a length to make it two wins from his last three starts at Lingfield last time and is expected to confirm that form. However, FILLY FODEN outran her odds of 33/1 to finish just over two lengths clear of the third when second at Wolverhampton earlier in the week and a similar performance might suffice. Mad Unicorn struck at the same venue last month and is another to consider

MAD UNICORN has won twice on the all-weather and resumed winning ways first time for her new yard at Wolverhampton last month. The step up to 6f should suit her strong-finishing style. Filly Foden has been runner-up in her last two Wolverhampton runs and handles artificial surfaces well. Solar Invincible showed improvement in cheekpieces and will appreciate returning to 6f.

Cool Molly has shown ability in her three career outings, most recently making the frame at Kempton, and she is likely to be thereabouts. Zoustar Dreams possesses a similar profile but was third when favourite at Newcastle, so it may pay to side with EALHSWITH. The Gosdens’ juvenile finished last of six on debut at Goodwood in May but returns from a break and it would be no surprise to see her take a big step forward.

Nemov and Panelli both make their first appearances for the Stuart Williams yard and the market could be informative, but they might be up against it with their stablemate CHERRY COBBLER. The son of Zoustar finished a close third on handicap debut over 6f at this venue in October and his maiden victory came over this distance, so he could be the one to beat. Cressida Wildes completes the shortlist.

A case can be made for a few of these but the vote goes to CHERRY COBBLER who made a promising return from an absence when third here last time and can improve sufficiently to bag a second success from just five runs. Brighton victor and stablemate of the selection Merrimack is well in the mix too, with Havana Rum and Twilight Fun others worthy of a second look.

CITY SELECTIONS

Invincible Melody finished second over this distance at Windsor in September before being well beaten over 7f here, so is one to note back at this trip. However, DANGER ALERT remains on a tempting mark after his respectable fourth at Lingfield last month. George Baker’s five-year-old has struck twice on the all-weather and he could improve on that record here. Baba Reza is another to note.

Due Date completed a hat-trick over track and trip on his most recent start and is sure to attract plenty of support, but he has a tricky draw in stall eight. With that in mind, HAVANA GILA looks the way to go. Harry Eustace’s filly produced a better display to fill the runner-up spot at Wolverhampton and she is 1lb well in here. Of the remainder, Emperor’s Son makes the most appeal.

CITY SELECTIONS

BEAUTY BY MY SIDE has a very good record on the all-weather and that includes a victory over 1m here when last seen in October This step up in trip may bring about further improvement from the three-year-old and that can help her to defy a 3lb rise. The consistent Lady Of Arabia is likely to be in the mix once again, while Amica and Live Each Day are others with strong claims.

DINGWALL was first past the post when bidding for a hat-trick at Wolverhampton earlier in the week. That said, he was demoted to second by the stewards and he could provide his supporters with some compensation on this occasion. Seconds Count has to be noted on her debut for these connections given her consistent form earlier in the year. Others who make the shortlist are Beachborough Girl, Al Shabab and Lady Aiyana.

PLAY SMARTER

A competitive finale. DINGWALL has been thriving on the all-weather, winning twice at Wolverhampton before being denied a hat-trick in the stewards’ room 3 days ago. Despite carrying a penalty, he can gain compensation. Al Shabab won at Lingfield in October and can still be competitive off this mark. Lady Aiyana returns to 10f, her best effort coming when placed third at Lingfield over this trip, while Rosemary’s Rose arrives in better heart than recent form figures suggest.

TIMEFORM PREDICTION: 1.DINGWALL 2.AL SHABAB (FR) 3.LADY AIYANA
