DESIGNATED SAFEGUARDING LEAD
Shelley Wheeler TODAY’S
We wish you a very warm welcome on the last of our September fixtures, after which we have a short break, before returning on Thursday, 2nd October for a busy month during which we have five fixtures.
This evening, we have nine competitive races for you: four of them for two year olds with the novice race having divided and two nursery handicaps. The second race is for amateur jockeys, each one riding for their love of horseracing and proving that the Corinthian spirit is alive and thriving. There are also three highly competitive handicaps and a selling race at 5.25pm, after which the winner is put up for auction in the winners’ enclosure.
Whether you are eating in one of our lovely restaurants or enjoying all the action from our Sports Bar, I hope you have a fantastic evening.
Neil Graham Racing Director

Timeform Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

EXPLOSION improved for the step up to a mile when getting off the mark at Windsor earlier in the month and the son of Showcasing could be hard to beat if finding further progression over this distance. Royal Bodyguard made the frame off this mark in a competitive nursery at Doncaster a week ago and is an obvious threat, while The Resdev Scholar cannot be written off either.

Having opened his account at Kempton on his penultimate start, ROYAL BODYGUARD acquitted himself with plenty of credit when third in a stronger race at Doncaster last week and he undoubtedly has more wins in him from this sort of mark. Windsor scorer Explosion is going the right way and can provide chief resistance.

SENSE OF REASON hit the crossbar multiple times prior to getting off the mark over C&D last month and the four-year-old tops the shortlist on the back of that performance, despite a 5lb rise. Prince Hector has run well off this rating the last twice and could pose the biggest threat to the selection, ahead of Wyld Bill and Pending Appeal.

More was expected of MR NIPPY when only fourth over 5f at Ayr back in April, but he is likely to prove a different proposition with that debut under his belt. The son of Kameko should improve for the step up in distance and is given another chance. Acclaimed Freedom offered some encouragement at Ascot and could build on that effort. Any market support behind newcomer Athena’s War would be interesting.

Those with experience don’t set the bar all that high, so ATHENA’S WAR, an appealing newcomer for a race of this nature, could be up to making a winning start. Mick From Tipp and Acclaimed Freedom both showed a bit on their respective debuts and are entitled to progress.
The Great British Bonus (GBB) incentivises and rewards with breeding, buying and racing of British-bred fillies by paying out bonuses of up to £100,000 per filly And now with GBBPlus to further incentivise staying fillies and chasing mares, there are more reasons than ever to breed, buy and race British. Majority funded by the HBLB.

CAPTAIN BRUCE showed a big chunk of improvement when scoring over track and trip last month. The son of Awtaad is now 6lb higher but, considering the manner of that success, he can follow up. Imso Friendly finished third behind the selection on her most recent start and might get closer on the revised terms. Of the remainder, Hoe Benham makes the most appeal on her nursery bow.

CAPTAIN BRUCE left previous efforts behind when opening his account over C&D recently and with further progress on the cards, Nigel Tinkler’s charge gets the nod to follow up. His main threat may emerge from Thanh Nam, who has offered precious little in 3 quick runs but may well prove a different proposition now handicapping. Imso Friendly, who was a couple of places behind the selection last time, rounds off the shortlist.

KINGMAKER shades the verdict in a small but competitive handicap. He had a subsequent winner a place behind when runner-up in class 4 company at Southwell and, eased in grade, he should remain competitive off a 3lb higher mark. Obsidian Knight won on his only previous visit here and posted an improved effort when third at Lingfield so he must enter calculations. Curran also warrants respect representing the in-form Charlie Johnston stable.

CAMPANI has certainly improved since being gelded and switched to handicap company, and the first-time hood did it’s job when he comfortably opened his account at Brighton. With further progress likely, he is taken to defy a 6lb rise in the ratings. Rogue Officer, equipped with a first-time hood himself, rates the biggest threat after a staying-on second on his handicap debut over 7f here. Ernie’s Valentine may improve for dropping in class.

DANDY G BOY improved to make a winning start for this yard at Wolverhampton in July and, having done too much too soon when fourth at Brighton on most recent outing, he’s well worth another chance. Rogue Officer showed much improved form when runner-up over C&D 21 days ago and may have more to offer in a first-time hood, particularly if getting a strong pace to aim at. Ernie’s Valentine is another to consider turned out again quickly from his reduced mark.
