This afternoon marks the beginning of our autumn list of fixtures with a nine-race card and ninety-seven declared runners. The weather is forecast for some drizzle and rain on-and-off all afternoon but do wrap up warm and come out to see the horses in the paddock, as there is nothing more useful than seeing your selection in the flesh: how does he look, is he relaxed or sweating, does he look bright in the eye and ready for this challenge?
If your horse does not look well in himself and mentally ready to win this race, he is highly unlikely to run to his best.
I wish you the best of luck and have a great afternoon.
Neil Graham Racing Director

Timeform Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Lady Kodiac ran well at Ripon to finish third, beaten two and a half lengths at the line, and on breeding she should be better suited by the extra furlong. Exhibitioning improved for her debut fifth with a length second at Windsor last month and she may be the biggest danger to JUMEIRAH SANDS. Supported from 28/1 to 7/2 on her Wolverhampton introduction, the plunge went astray after a slow start but she is clearly thought to be a lot better than that.

EXHIBITIONING built on her encouraging debut when finding just one too strong at Windsor last month and, with the promise of better to come from this filly, she gets the nod ahead of Zen Diva, who made a promising start to her career at Newbury a fortnight ago. Lady Kodiac is also open to improvement and is third choice.
The Great British Bonus (GBB) incentivises and rewards with breeding, buying and racing of British-bred fillies by paying out bonuses of up to £100,000 per filly And now with GBBPlus to further incentivise staying fillies and chasing mares, there are more reasons than ever to breed, buy and race British. BEGGARMAN may be an eight-year-old but with six career wins, three of them here and two off higher marks, he has every chance. Fourth at Lingfield over two miles last week, he could get back to winning ways. Golden Garden made all to score by three lengths over this trip at Wolverhampton and looks a serious rival carrying a 6lb penalty. Greek Giant is one to watch on his first start since a Lingfield third in May 2024

There’s a good chance that GOLDEN GARDEN will again be able to set the fractions, just as he did when winning well at Wolverhampton recently, and further success could be on the cards. If Greek Giant is ready to roll following a 15-month absence he will be a big danger, while Cardinal Point should also be in the mix if able to build on her Lingfield breakthrough.

Sir Rodneyredblood won this in 2022 and gets to race off 2lb lower. He could run into a place, but DUBAI MAGIC might be the one after finishing a short-head second over C&D last month. Only upped 1lb, she sits at the bottom of the handicap and can take full advantage. Startling is yet to win this year, but she may run another big race after a sequence of solid places.

The vote goes to CABEZA DE LLAVE, who is now 3lb lower in the weights compared to when notching his third C&D success last October and he has been knocking on the door of late. Startling has also been promising to come good in recent starts and she is shortlisted, along with the selection’s stablemate Flicka’s Girl. Maris Angel would have a huge chance if able to reproduce the form of her Wolverhampton win earlier this month.

This looks open and only a tentative vote can be afforded to WRATH OF HECTOR. Jessica Macey’s eight-year-old wasn’t far behind the reopposing Pinjarra (winner) when third in a C&D classified event three weeks ago. The son of Mayson is 4lb better off and with the likelihood of plenty of pace, he could be well positioned to strike. Sarabi hit the frame at Lingfield latest and is respected, for all that a wide draw isn’t ideal.

Pinjarra had Wrath of Hector back in third when scoring over this C&D last month and they rate the main dangers, though Sam’s Hope could also have a part to play

ENCIRCLE hadn’t shown much for previous connections, but the daughter of Ten Sovereigns posted a far more encouraging effort on her first start for John Butler over C&D three weeks ago. Beaten less than two lengths into fifth having been caught further back than ideal, she’s 1lb lower and could provide some value if able to build on that performance. Alyara hit the woodwork in that contest so is of obvious interest, while others to note include Desert Beauty and Poetic Jack.

A decidedly trappy handicap and with that in mind a chance is taken on ENCIRCLE. She caught the eye starting out for her new yard when staying on for fifth in a C&D handicap 21 days ago, suggesting there’s mileage in her from her present mark and market confidence would bolster appeal behind her. My Boy Harry, Desert Beauty and Diligent Henry are others fancied to feature. Alyara is another player with a repeat of her latest C&D second.

LOVE IS THE LAW has yet to score in a handicap, but that is not for the want of trying as she has posted a string of creditable efforts this term. She weakened into third over the mile at Windsor so a drop in trip should suit and if first-time cheekpieces have a positive effect, she could have her day in the sun. H Key Lails has a C&D triumph to his name this year and is a threat, while Riot has become too well treated to ignore.

A deserved first taste of success beckons for INVINCIBLE MELODY, who left the strong impression that the return to this trip would be just the ticket when second over 6f at Windsor recently Lessay is capable of a bold show off this mark and is next on the list, while Anthropologist won’t be far away if on-song and last-time-out Kempton winner Soldiers Star also merits respect.
There are dedicated parking spaces, WC’s, and access to all public areas of the grandstand and paddock. We also provide a viewing platform.

BLESSED STAR produced a career-best effort when filling the runner-up spot in a hot handicap at York and shouldn’t have any issues with this drop back in trip. The daughter of Sottsass sets the standard with an official rating of 79 and looks tough to oppose. Shimmering Spin occupied the runner-up berth over C&D on his most recent start and might be the main threat, although Jazzit is another to watch out for

CITY SELECTIONS
Pure Imagination showed more on her handicap bow when second over an extended mile at Wolverhampton in May and holds an obvious chance. However, POLAR REBEL was just touched off over 7f at this venue last month and only has a 1lb higher rating to contend with. With Alexandra Egan claiming a handy 7lb and the application of cheekpieces possibly bringing out improvement, she looks the way to go. Monks Mead completes the shortlist.
