TODAY’S RACING

TODAY’S SPONSORS

Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse

Welcome to our penultimate fixture of 2025, so, with only two weeks to go until Christmas Day, we hope to get you into the festive spirit and begin the celebrations.

The first of our eight races kicks off at 5.00pm with seven amateur riders, keeping the Corinthian spirit alive, and all looking for one of those elusive winners. At 6.00pm, we have a race designed to further the careers of the next generation of middle distance horses and stayers; these are horses bred to improve with age, as they mature and race over longer distances. Our feature race of the evening, at 8.00pm, has four of the seven runners rated over 100 in the handicap, suggesting that they are knocking on the door of Listed race class. Serengeti was trained by Aidan O’Brien until recently, where he performed duties as a pacemaker this season in multiple Group 1 races; he won a handicap at Naas on his last start in Ireland and finished second on his first start for Dylan Cunha.

Have a great evening.

For more information about any of our upcoming events please visit chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

Timeform Rating

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Spectacular Style romped home at Wolverhampton last time and looks a danger to all. He sports the same colours as the consistent filly Cardinal Point, and she could also have a say in the outcome, but another chance goes the way of CAPTAIN ROBERT James Fanshawe’s charge has gone agonisingly close the last twice and, due to be raised 3lb for his recent narrow defeat at Lingfield, he gets the nod to go one better

Far Too Fizzy won over C&D in October with the subsequent Wolverhampton winner Kuiama back in second. However, both have disappointed since and it could pay to take a chance on MYTHICAL NIGHT The daughter of Invincible Army took a big step forward when runner-up at Brighton in August and Dylan Cunha’s filly could prove ahead of her opening mark now handicapping for the first time.

YORK TOWER is taken to edge what looks a tight contest on paper. William Haggas’ charge caught the eye making late progress to finish second under a considerate ride at Yarmouth on debut and should be a lot wiser Naqada King drops in trip after finishing runner-up over a mile at Kempton on his introduction. That experience could give him the advantage over the other Godolphin runner Quartermaster.

CITY SELECTIONS

Alligator Alley arrives in fine form and may well confirm superiority with Cloud King (second) having beaten the latter at Southwell last time. That pair will likely be thereabouts, but ALMATY STAR could prove the one to side with. Robert Cowell’s sprinter was successful off a 5lb higher mark at the start of the year and looks set to resume winning ways on the back of last week’s creditable second over C&D.

CHAMPAGNE POWDER came up short back in novice company at Southwell last time when finding a couple too good. Saying that, it wasn’t a bad effort and the son of Kodiac will likely be bang there at the finish. Kempton runner-up Rastnet has shown enough to suggest she can have a say in proceedings. She’s preferred to Shamacid, who usually finds at least one too good.

Two Tempting gained revenge on his Southwell conqueror when reversing the placings at Kempton and has been bumped back up to a triple-digit figure. He has never won off a mark this high so perhaps it’s worth giving another chance to BLUE RC, who couldn’t quite complete the hat-trick but has plenty more to offer. Serengeti had Crown Board a couple of positions behind when going close on his first start for Dylan Cunha and Bravais is worth a look too.
