GREENE KING DAY

At the time of writing, the forecast is for another lovely summer’s day on one of our rare afternoon fixtures. We have not only six exciting races for you today; in addition, we have Radio Essex presenter, Marky T, playing in the Summer marquee during the afternoon or you can head over to the “Level Head” Garden to try one of our fantastic premium beers. If you want some expert advice, at 1.30pm in the Summer marquee, our presenter, Steve Watts will talk you through the racecard and help you find some winners.

Also, we are supporting Blesma this afternoon, the charity that is dedicated to assisting ex-Service men and women, who have suffered life-changing limb loss. This is a charity that does fantastic work and any support you feel able to offer would be gratefully received.

Have a lovely afternoon.

Timeform Rating

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS

BAY CITY ROLLER justified favouritism when making a winning debut in a decent novice race at Sandown last month. George Scott’s colt should have no issues racing on Polytrack and he’s taken to defy a 7lb penalty. $155,000 debutant Via Con Me is a half-sister to Graded stakes-placed Cool Beans and any market support for the son of No Nay Never would be interesting, with fellow newcomer Rock D’oro making most appeal of the remainder

CITY SELECTIONS

Although unable to score on the turf on his last three outings, dual Tapeta winner MERESIDE MADNESS shouldn’t have any issues now racing on Polytrack. The application of first-time blinkers may eke out some improvement from the Buratino gelding and he’s taken to regain the winning thread. Gaiety Musical enters handicaps off a fair mark judged on her recent close-up third at this venue and she’s feared most, ahead of Laguna Boy

CITY SELECTIONS

This may be dominated by 92-rated pair Dancing Magic and SKIPPER, with the latter’s unexposed profile edging him the vote. The three-year-old arrives on the back of a close-up second in maiden company at Southwell and he looks sure to pick up a race of this nature soon. The aforementioned Dancing Magic has some strong handicap form to his name this season and he isn’t taken lightly on his all-weather debut. Odin Legacy may chase the duo home.

DECLARED RUNNERS 11 2023: DIRE LA VERITE (FR) 3 9 7 Oisin Murphy 18-1 (Brian Meehan) 9 ran Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn first time by No. 1. Running for the first time since Gelding No. 5, 6. Stewards Note: COTSWOLD COTTAGE: Following its run on 15/8/2024 it was reported that the jockey had trouble removing blindfold.

Probable S.P’s: 5-6 Skipper (GB), 10-3 Dancing Magic (IRE), 8-1 Buon Viaggio (GB), 22-1 Odin Legacy (IRE), 40-1 Blackwaterfoot (USA), 50-1 Ya Rayah (GB), 66-1 Darkest Intention (GB), Sense of Reason (GB), 100-1 Saved Lizzie (GB), Apache Canyon (IRE), 200-1 Cotswold Cottage (GB)

Not as competitive as the numbers suggest and SKIPPER, who boasts some strong form, looks to have been found an excellent opportunity to open his account on the back of his excellent Southwell second last time out. The Crisfords’ newcomer Buon Viaggio could emerge as the one to chase him home, especially if the market vibes are positive, ahead of Dancing Magic who also has the form to have a say if back on his A-game.

A winner at Salisbury last month, SNEAKY BLINDER made another determined bid back at the same track on his latest start and looks capable of scoring off his current mark on that evidence. Indian Romance produced her best effort so far when runner-up over course and distance and will likely be winning at this level sooner rather than later, while Hardman steps up in distance with a shout after finding only one too good over a mile at Redcar
