Evening Racing
Thursday 18th April 2024

Thursday 18th April 2024
We have seven races for you this evening, starting with a competitive amateur riders’ race.
The riders in this race belong to an organisation called Fegentri, which consists of gentlemen and lady riders from twenty-five different countries, whose mission is to establish long-lasting friendships based on respect and solidarity.
All the riders are true “amateurs” and, therefore, do not receive any riding fee: they ride solely for the honour and privilege of representing their respective countries. The best of the riders can qualify to ride in their own World Championships, which symbolises the ultimate accolade for them.
We wish them the best of luck and I hope you have a lovely evening.
For more information about any of our upcoming events please visit chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Sirius White was on target under Ellie Mayo at odds of 100-1 over the mile at Southwell and merits respect, despite having stamina to prove now upped in trip. CALCUTTA DREAM might have work to do from stall 15, but he seldom runs poorly on the all-weather The six-year-old is now 3lb higher than for his recent Wolverhampton success but, should he be close enough, he looks to hold every chance of following up. Enzos Angel and Reverberation are others to consider

ENZOS ANGEL was denied only by a revitalised stable switcher on his most recent start at Wolverhampton 8 days ago and, due to be 2lb higher in future, he could well be worth siding with to come out on top here Reverberation and Breguet Boy head up the dangers along with Calcutta Dream. Corporate Raider on return from a reduced mark also makes some each-way appeal.

CON TE PARTIRO completed his hat-trick with any amount in hand at Wolverhampton eight days ago and Richard Spencer’s charge, who is 2lb well-in under a 6lb penalty, should be a tough nut to crack once again. Salamanca Lad shaped with promise on his seasonal return/stable debut when fourth at Southwell and he might be best placed to take advantage should the selection underperform, while Subaltern heads the remainder

CON TE PARTIRO has been most progressive in handicaps this year, bringing up the hat-trick with a commanding success at Wolverhampton last week, and he can add to his tally under a penalty. Daytona Lady and Sir Rodneyredblood, who dead-heated over this C&D back in December, enter the reckoning, with the former marginally preferred given she has won off 4lb higher in the past. However, dual C&D winner HARB has to be of interest on his first run in a class 6 and he can make the most of the ease in grade. Araifjan has a fine record at this venue and has each-way claims at least.

A tight-knit handicap in which marginal preference is for C&D winner KESSAAR POWER who hinted at a revival when third at Southwell last time and can capitalise on a falling mark. Agostino is feared most off a handy-looking weight, with fellow course scorers Harb and Mokaatil also in the mix.

Justahunch has finished second and third in this grade since switching to the Dylan Cunha team and he goes off an unchanged rating, so he could get into contention once again. However, the vote goes to SOUTHBANK, who struck by three lengths over C&D last week and despite having a 6lb penalty to carry, he can follow up. Smooth Silesie and Forgotten Treasure can fight it out for the minor honours.

Mart has hit the crossbar on each of his last two outings at Lingfield and he goes off the same mark, so he should remain competitive. However, he could find it tough to deny the hat-trick seeking SHALLOW, who took care of her rivals by two lengths on her handicap debut over C&D. Richard Spencer’s filly should have plenty more to offer and looks difficult to oppose off 7lb higher. Jimmy Speaking has Silvestre De Sousa booked on his return and he completes the shortlist.

SHALLOW can take a 7lb rise in her stride and complete a C&D hat-trick, though may not have it all her own way given the presence of Mart, who shaped most encouragingly in a race not run to suit at Lingfield earlier in the month. Reprised can complete the placings.
