Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse

We have had a busy schedule recently, featuring some terrific racing. The winner of the Woodford Reserve Cardinal Stakes last Saturday, Bracken’s Laugh, won in great style and we look forward to following his career this year and beyond.

They won’t need to be as good as Bracken’s Laugh to win the race but the five fillies in the 8.00 pm race tonight look interesting: Aquacell is unraced but cost 300,000 euros, Cuban Melody cost 155,000 guineas and was second on her only start, So Logical was second and third at Newmarket last autumn in two competitive maidens. They look a bunch of progressive fillies and it will be worthwhile making a trip to the paddock to inspect them .

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

MISS ANYA bounced back to form when second in a similar event over 5f at Wolverhampton last time and the daughter of Kodi Bear appears to be the one to beat on that evidence. Cervaro Della Sala was a consistent performer as a juvenile and has to be of interest on her return to action. Ten Commitments showed ability on his racecourse bow in January and should not be underestimated having been gelded since then.
