Chelmsford City Racecard - Thursday 19th October

Page 1

Evening Racing Thursday 19th October 2023

Official Programme £3.50

Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse I am keen to share with you the importance of the welfare of the horses, that race here, to all of us at the racecourse. From the moment, each horse arrives at the stables, we strive to ensure that the horse has the very best of care and attention. We have a team of vets in attendance, who will check any horses over whom there may be concerns before they leave the stables, they will then be monitored in the paddock, down at the start and, after the race, back in the paddock area and at the stables. Having spent a large part of my life caring for these beautiful animals, I can testify to the love that stable staff have for their horses. They work incredibly long hours, developing a bond of trust that is hard to create and easily broken with these highly strung animals. It is truly wonderful to witness the strength and closeness of that bond and should never be underestimated. Have a wonderful evening.

Timeform Rating

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS WHIP CRACKER sets a decent standard based on his debut performance when runner-up at Newmarket and that experience ought to stand him in good stead in his attempt to go one better. Silvaplana comes from an excellent family, with her dam a full-sister to Galiway, who has had a solid beginning to life as a stallion, and she warrants a considerable amount of respect on her first start, with 75,000gns purchase Wide Margin and Deep Havana also noted. CITY SELECTIONS MYSTERIOUS MAESTRO posted his best effort of the season when filling the frame in third at Wolverhampton last time out, and a similar level of performance may be enough for the three-year-old to get his head in front here. Adace is now 6lb higher than her Windsor triumph in August, but rates as a more solid proposition than most, while Cap D’Antibes warrants respect as a dual C&D winner. MYSTERIOUS MAESTRO

CITY SELECTIONS The three last-time-out winners may dominate proceedings, with TRADESMAN shading the vote. The gelded son of Mastercraftsman has won on his last two appearances at this venue and triumphed with enough in hand here a fortnight ago to suggest that he can defy a 4lb rise in the ratings. CITY SELECTIONS UNIVERSAL GRACE scored cheekily over C&D last month and, considering she was rated as high as 62 last autumn, a 3lb higher mark might be nowhere near enough to prevent her following up. David Probert retaining the ride is another positive and the filly is taken to reverse recent Wolverhampton form with Suanni. Rewilding and Tilsworth Ony Ta are others to consider.

CITY SELECTIONS The booking of Oisin Murphy for Marmara Star catches the eye and, with her match-fitness topped up after a respectable fourth-placed finish at Wolverhampton 10 days ago, a big run is expected.
