Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse

As we settle into autumn, our schedule of, mainly, Thursday evening floodlit fixtures becomes the nucleus of our racing calendar. The flat turf season has about another month to go and before it recommences towards the end of next March, flat racing will be staged solely on the all-weather. Racing in the evenings under our floodlights has an unique atmosphere and, we feel, lends the racecourse a certain intimacy and ambience that we look forward to every year.

The other advantage of this time of year is that we are allocated more races, meaning that we have a nine-race card for you tonight. Amongst, what looks a highly competitive card, there is at 6.30pm, The Transparent Recruitment Solutions Selling Handicap, after which, in the winners’ enclosure, the winner will be put up for sale. These auctions are quite a spectacle and it is worth a visit to the enclosure to watch proceedings…but keep your hands in your pockets!

I hope you have an enjoyable evening.

For more information about any of our upcoming events please visit chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS

PUELLA LAW displayed plenty of promise when a close second on her racecourse debut at Beverley in August and John Quinn’s filly could be hard to stop with the benefit of that experience. Just Rita hit the crossbar over a mile here a couple of weeks ago and could prove to be the main threat to the selection, although Asteverdi and Rogue State should not be discounted.

HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6)

CITY SELECTIONS

MONAADHIL was a winner over C&D two starts ago. Sent off favourite here a week later, Ruth Carr’s charge kept on well for fifth having settled too far off the pace. His current mark would appear to be well within range and, given a more prominent ride, he could regain the winning thread. Blue Flame showed more upon the fitting of first-time cheekpieces (retained) at Kempton and must enter calculations along with Thomas Equinas.

MONAADHIL Blue Flame

Leading course trainer (17-22): M Appleby (78 wins from 624 runners, 12%) runs HEZAHUNK

LOST IN TIME has been running to a consistent level on the turf recently and, though he remains winless on the all-weather, the son of Dubawi has often gone well in defeat. If he can negotiate a relatively wide draw breaking from stall eight, then Dean Ivory’s charge might be able to cash in against some out-of-form rivals. The unexposed Hildegard is a half-sister to C&D winner Cavalluccio and might have more to offer on this surface. Eton College is also noted.

Lethal Touch arrives in fine fettle having notched up a brace of victories at Epsom recently, but a chance is taken on MOOGIE. James Fanshawe’s filly has struggled on both of her handicap starts, but she’s been given a short break since her latest Newmarket effort. Eased 4lb in the ratings for that run, the daughter of Mastercraftsman is bred to be far better than her current mark and might improve for the return to an artificial surface. Mountain Flower heads the remainder

Bernard Spierpoint has won four races on the all-weather and could go well here, though he would need a career best off his current mark and may have to settle for a place. Agostino remains a maiden after 14 races but has come home second in his last two and will be looking to go one better, but PHOENIX GLOW is still preferred.
