If the weather forecast is correct, I am afraid that we may have a rather showery evening ahead but let’s not let that dampen our spirits, as we have a seven-race card for you tonight with some great racing in prospect.
Our next raceday is a week on Saturday with the first race scheduled for 5.30 pm. This evening is Gentlemen’s Night, so ladies and gentlemen dress up and enjoy a fantastic evening of racing, which will be followed by a DJ set from radio and TV presenter, Chris Moyles. Chris will be inside in the Summer Marquee, so don’t let the weather bother you – come and enjoy the evening!
Have a great evening.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

MUKHA MAGIC was only narrowly denied when second over 2m at Lingfield a couple of weeks ago and the seven-year-old can go one better here off just a 1lb higher mark. My Chiquita also hit the crossbar on her most recent outing and could prove to be the biggest threat to the selection. Al Azhar and Warning Sign look to be the pick of the remainder.

Alpen Power sets the standard based on his third in a Newcastle nursery last time but a chance can be taken with GREEN SIGMA. The daughter of Havana Gold is closely related to plenty of two-year-old winners, including the Listed-placed Umneyati, and it would be no surprise to see her make a successful start to her career. Stablemate Better is another noteworthy newcomer, while Just Rita and Belle Flora complete the shortlist.

MONAADHIL returned to winning ways over C&D a week ago and a 4lb penalty for that success may not be enough to stop him from following up. MONAADHIL seemingly had plenty left in the tank when notching his fourth C&D success last week and will take plenty of stopping under a penalty if in a similar mood. Daisy Roots is holding her form well and she is likely to be in the mix once again, while recent all-the-way Lingfield winner Hold The Press is also shortlisted. Brilliant Blue and Lynwood Lad are other plausible candidates.

EHRAZ ran an excellent race in defeat to finish a close-up third in a valuable handicap at York last month. Richard Hannon’s four-year-old kept on well from the back of the field and the return to 7f might just yield the necessary improvement. War In Heaven and Aljari both arrive in tremendous form and enter the reckoning once again. Kinta was runner-up to Lezoo in the Princess Margaret at Ascot last season and she could be very interesting on her return.

EHRAZ is the class act in this field and shaped better than the bare result when third in a more competitive event at York last time, so he makes plenty of appeal on his first try on polytrack. War In Heaven is a big threat in his hat-trick bid and a big run from Zero Carbon would come as no surprise.

HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6)
While there is good reason to suggest Mehmo can reverse recent form with Mick’s Spirit and Dalby Forest on these terms, it is NAVY DRUMS who catches the eye. Well supported in a deeper race last time, dropping back in both class and trip could prompt a revival from the Jack Jones-trained gelding. Hat-trick chasing veteran Boom The Groom is up another 4lb, yet still commands respect.
Leading course trainer (17-22): M Appleby (78 wins from 621 runners, 13%) runs MEHMO
Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): M Appleby (7 wins from 42 runners, 17%) runs MEHMO
Weightwatcher: MICK’S SPIRIT won off a handicap mark of 68, his rating is now down 6lb to 62.

A winner off 6lb lower at Brighton on her penultimate start, CRYPTOS DREAM is still potentially well handicapped based on ratings achieved during her time in Ireland. This is a similar level to what she faced under a penalty at Ripon last time, but with several struggling to find form, she could well bounce back. El Royale, runner-up over 1m here last week, is 2lb well-in and feared most, with Two Plus Two rated a contender back down in trip.
