Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse
After racing this evening, we are delighted to be joined by Ministry of Sound Disco for the fourth time. Their upbeat mixture of disco and house classics is always a hit with everyone at Chelmsford and we are looking forward to another great evening of racing and fantastic music; we are even promised, by the weathermen, that we shall be basking in the tale end of the summer sunshine.
We have Gentlemen’s Night at the end of this month, on Saturday, 30th September, when Chris Moyles will be presenting a DJ set after racing. If you would like to join us, go to our website to purchase your tickets before Sunday, 10th September, and using the code
‘GENT10’ at checkout you will be able to purchase your general admission tickets for £10. Sounds like a great deal!
I hope you have a wonderful evening.
Neil Graham

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
You must be 18 or over to place a bet
You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet
If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

A very competitive event but a chance is taken on Sir Mark Prescott’s BRAVURA, who has been a beaten favourite on his last two starts but this drop in trip could be the perfect tonic. The three-year-old is now 2lb lower in the ratings than when last seen and that could bring out some improvement. Liseo is feared most after back-to-back seconds, while Red Treasure and Tessy Lad head the remainder BRAVURA Liseo

KODIMAN is in better heart than recent form figures suggest and is fancied to get off the mark with further improvement still a distinct possibility for Roger Varian’s 3yo. Liseo arrives after a pair of decent efforts in defeat, albeit in a 3-runner race last time, and can get involved, whilst Tessy Lad is the type to bounce back to form quickly after a poor effort at Epsom last time.

KANDOO was a comfortable winner over an extended 5f at Bath last month and she is likely to offer another bold bid here Archie Watson’s charge shaped as if this extra yardage wouldn’t be an issue when scoring by three lengths on that occasion. Miss Anya could be the main threat after a very good second over 6f at Windsor and she appears likely to improve as a result of that experience, while May should also be thereabouts.

PLAY SMARTER
MAY shaped well when third on debut at Windsor last month and may find the necessary improvement to emerge on top here with top apprentice Billy Loughnane claiming 3lb. She was around 3 lengths adrift of the re-opposing runner-up, Miss Anya, but that rival had the benefit of previous experience whereas it’ll be more of a level playing field this time. Kandoo opened her account in good style at Bath and rates the main danger ahead of Miss Anya and probable improver Unico.

MONKS MEAD has made a very pleasing start to his handicap career and this looks like a good opportunity to get his head back in front. Mark Usher’s charge was only beaten half a length last time over 6f at Windsor and he can defy a 3lb rise. Goldmine Girl appears to be the biggest danger on her nursery debut, while Mist Of Lir and Lucy Lockett could also feature.

GREY GRAY has been in outstanding form of late, winning twice last month, and a 5lb rise for her most recent win over course and distance may not be enough to prevent her from landing the hat-trick. MUSICAL TRIBUTE has been knocking on the door of late and this looks like a good opportunity to get off the mark at the seventh time of asking. The daughter of Acclamation may improve for the application of first-time blinkers and she may have too much for the likes of Flying Kiss and Shot, who has been a revelation since joining the Jack Jones stable. Others to note are Rhythmic Acclaim and American Rose.

TAHITIAN PRINCE did well in the circumstances to finish third over 7f at Kempton last time, as he met with trouble in running, and the son of Siyouni looks ready to capitalise on his 1lb lower mark here Finery had Last Hoorah (third) behind when victorious by a length and a half over C&D last time and she can confirm that form. Shoot To Kill edges out Roman Dynasty to best of the rest.
