Evening Racing

Tuesday 8th August 2023

Tuesday 8th August 2023
The first race this evening is the Fegentri World Championship Handicap (for female amateur jockeys). Fegentri is the international federation for lady and gentleman amateur riders and tonight’s race has a truly international make-up. There is Miss Alice Keighley from England, who has ridden 8 winners; Mlle Tereza Grbavcicova from the Czech Republic, who has ridden 22 winners; Mell Boucher from the USA, who has ridden 9 winners; and Margaux Collomb from France, who has ridden 22 winners.
All these riders, as I have said, are amateur riders and, therefore, have other full-time jobs with Margaux Collomb listing her job as a commercial collaborator and Mlle Tereza Grbavcicova listing her’s as a customs officer.
We wish these riders the best of luck and don’t forget that at 5.20 pm, we have a Shetland pony race, which are always great fun to watch. We are also partnering with Autism in Racing this evening to offer children with autism complimentary badges, which is a charity that we are proud to support.
Have a lovely evening.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
You must be 18 or over to place a bet
You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet

Grey Gray has to be respected following her Musselburgh victory on Friday but a 6lb penalty for that success will make her life tougher With that in mind, preference is for HAPPY TEARS, who has shown plenty of promise in maiden company and an opening mark of 72 may underestimate the daughter of Dandy Man. The rest all have claims but Desert Master is arguably the pick of them.

MYSTERIOUS SOUL was not disgraced on his debut at Lingfield a month ago and, with the benefit of that experience, it would be no surprise to see the son of Kuroshio get off the mark at the second attempt. HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6)
Irish Dessert hit the frame at Leicester on his latest outing, which was his best performance to date and he has to be considered off 1lb lower However, he will need to transfer that form to the all-weather and, for that reason, three-time course winner MONAADHIL just shades the vote. The nine-year-old did well to finish fifth over C&D last month, as the race seemed to favour prominent runners, so that performance can be upgraded and he ought to go close off a 1lb lower rating. Flying Barty looks best of the rest.

Yeoman made it two wins from as many visits to Wolverhampton when scoring by a neck over an extended 1m last time and he should be suited by this extra yardage, but he has been raised 4lb for that neck success. With that in mind, the vote goes to MUDSKIPPER, who shaped as if a step up in trip is just what is needed on his latest outing at Sandown over a mile and, with the addition of first-time cheekpieces another possible source of improvement, he could go close off 1lb lower
