The cold weather this week has been unbelievably challenging for everyone at the racecourse, which has involved a gargantuan effort by the team to be able to stage racing today. Sadly, we had to abandon racing on Thursday, as the temperatures plummeted with the onset of nightfall but with warmer temperatures forecast today, we are looking forward to an exciting afternoon’s racing.
We have seven races for you with the first three being shown live on ITV. As jump racing, from Ascot and Haydock, has succumbed to the weather, the only racing today is from Lingfield and Chelmsford. Both courses have competitive cards, so I trust that you will have an enjoyable afternoon and manage to find some winners.
For more information about any of these events please visit chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
VITESSE DU SON justified strong market support when winning at Wolverhampton recently and Alice Haynes’ charge could take all the beating under a 5lb penalty. Lake Sand is a C&D winner and he demands the utmost respect, along with Eagle Eyed Freddie, whose consistency ought to bode well in a race of this nature. Nick Vedder has shown more in recent starts and he should not be underestimated either

LAKE SAND: Following its run on 17/11/2022 it was reported that the horse hung left handed. Probable S.P’s: 15-8 Vitesse du Son (GB), 7-2 Eagle Eyed Freddie (GB), 6-1 Nick Vedder (GB), 8-1 Lake Sand (IRE), 17-2 Heer’s Sadie (GB), 20-1 Bombastic (IRE), 33-1 Saxonhill (IRE), 100-1 Fast Flo (GB), 150-1 The Charmer (IRE), 250-1 Sunset In Paris (IRE), 300-1 Jazz Music (GB)
NICK VEDDER could be ready to end his losing run off his reduced mark given how he shaped at Wolverhampton last week. Eagle Eyed Freddie continues to hold his form well and rates the main threat ahead of Heer’s Sadie.
Lord Paramount scored at Wolverhampton earlier this month and he could be on a decent mark ahead of his handicap debut. That said, a chance is taken on FIRST COMPANY, who may improve for the first-time switch to 7f and finds himself on a workable rating here. Mawkeb edges out Got No Dollars and Classy Dame to be the pick of the remainder.

Following a series of good efforts in defeat, HEY LYLA deserves to get her head in front and this looks like a good opportunity for the daughter of Oasis Dream. Bluff showed plenty of promise when staying on for third over C&D on debut last month and should not be underestimated. BASS STRAIT made an encouraging start for Sheena West when tried over 2m for the first time in a similar event at Lingfield 18 days ago and could go very well if reproducing that level of form here Party Planner is respected as she steps up in trip after a game second when last seen, while Drill To Dream is suggested as the best of the rest.

BASS STRAIT was a bit better than the bare result starting out for this yard when fourth at Lingfield and she remains unexposed as a stayer Party Planner responded well to this headgear when second at Lingfield when last seen and is next best.
TIMEFORM PREDICTION: 1.BASS STRAIT 2.PARTY PLANNER 3.RESET BUTTON
The in-form Measured Moments should make a bold bid for the hat-trick, but the longer trip and a 6lb higher mark could leave her vulnerable. Therefore, preference is for KARDINYA, who was a good second over C&D earlier this month before another game effort over 1m at Southwell on Tuesday. He remains on the same mark and another big run can be expected. City Escape completes the shortlist.
