Chelmsford City Racecard - Tuesday 8th November

Page 1

Evening Racing Tuesday 8th November 2022

Official Programme £3.00

Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse After an unbelievably wet weekend, we welcome you back to the racecourse. The turf course has been crying out for some rain all summer and the last week has finally brought us this much-needed rain; although we would have preferred it to arrive in more moderate quantities, rather than in the space of a few hours. We have a bumper card for you this evening with 100 declared runners over nine races. The first five races are all about the two year olds with three fascinating novice races, followed by two nursery handicaps. The final four races look competitive handicaps, so expect some tight and hard-fought finishes. Our feature race tonight at 7.30pm has some classy performers. Chichester stayed on to finish second last time out over a mile, so tonight, ridden by the in-form Kevin Stott, after his treble here on Saturday, and over 10 furlongs, looks to have an obvious chance. However, Fantastic Fox, who finished an eye-catching second in a competitive handicap at Newbury after a long break may have too much class for him. Have a great evening.

Neil Graham Racing Director For more information about any of these events please visit chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

Timeform Rating

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS It is hard to look past OTTOMAN PRINCE, who secured victory in good style on his debut over this course and distance last month. He has to shoulder a penalty for that success, but is fairly well related and it is likely there is more in his locker. Silky Smooth makes a lot of appeal on paper and looks bred to be better than the display he showed on his racecourse bow, while Gallimimus is another to consider. OTTOMAN PRINCE

CITY SELECTIONS BEDAZZLING displayed serious improvement on her nursery debut at Newcastle last week and she is taken to go one better now. Georgia Madeleine has run creditably since winning at Brighton in August and she must enter calculations, along with Secretary, who has built up plenty of experience at this venue. Hiya Hiya and Sweet Idea are capable of being in the mix as well.

PLAY SMARTER

This looks ripe for BEDAZZLING, who improved when second on her nursery debut off this mark over 5f at Newcastle last week. Moving up in trip will almost certainly be in her favour and she makes plenty of appeal. Georgia Madeleine looks the safest best for the forecast, while Arlecchino’s Star is a viable each-way option.

CITY SELECTIONS DOCTOR MOZART has been knocking on the door and his most recent effort at Southwell, when second, arguably represented a career-best. David Evan’s charge can break the maiden tag at the ninth time of asking, with Pink Stripes likely to finish behind him again, along with Mother India. Miss Marianne and Wedgewood are likely to be thereabouts as well based on recent efforts.

CITY SELECTIONS It could be a safe policy to side with the consistent VAYNOR, as his weight-for-age allowance helps to combat his latest rise in the handicap and leaves him with a live chance at the weights. Others to bear in mind include Aced It, who returned to form last time and is unexposed at the trip, while Iconique and Fairmac are others who may flourish if this develops into a test of stamina.
