Chelmsford City Racecard - Tuesday 16th August

Evening Racing Presented by Vickers.Bet Tuesday 16th August 2022 Official Programme £3.00

Welcome

The welfare of the horses that run here is paramount to all of us at the racecourse, which is why we make every effort to cool the horses down after their races and to maintain the all-weather course in the best possible condition. I hope you enjoy the racing this evening and manage to find some winners. Neil Graham Racing Director For more information about any of these events please visit www.chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

The huge benefit that we are able to provide is consistent going that minimizes the strain on young horses’ joints.

After the extremely hot weather that we have been experiencing recently, the temperature is forecast to be a few degrees cooler today and there are a few showers forecast during the week, which will be more than welcome. This exceptional weather is putting a huge strain on the turf courses around the country and this is when an all-weather course comes into its own. Horses will be working at home, day-to-day, on an all-weather surface, so they will be comfortable on these surfaces and their bodies will have adapted to their use.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. 7 PARK LANE DANCER (IRE) (11) 4 9-2 (1) Br Br g Elzaam (AUS) Greatest Dancer (IRE) (Iffraaj) Paul Hanagan J O Simon Mulvany & Partner John Quinn, Malton T B Ballyhane Stud JJ Quinn Racing Ltd S Foaled April 20 €15,000 yearling, Elzaam gelding. The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

SHAHBAZ went agonisingly close to getting off the mark at Newcastle last month and with the fourth coming out and winning since, Charlie Fellowes’ colt can gain compensation here today Hover On The Wind bumped into a good one when second at Yarmouth last time, but he was clear of the rest so looks capable of getting involved if handling the all-weather surface, while Roman Spring is a newcomer from the Richard Hannon team who has some fancy entries and he should be monitored very closely in the market.

MR FUSTIC hasn’t looked the same horse on turf as he does on the all-weather, so he can put his disappointment at Epsom behind him last time and get back on track here Andi Brown’s was going for the hat-trick after winning twice at Wolverhampton, so he can hopefully reward his once again. Boulivar is another who has disappointed on turf the last twice, but he could go well back on the all-weather, while Mr Trick also should be considered in an open-looking contest.

PLAY SMARTER

This looks pretty trappy and it could be worth siding with BOULIVAR, who hasn’t shown much the last twice but those races were on turf and at around 1 1/4m. He showed a fair level of ability on the all-weather earlier this year and the return to this scene, together with the addition of blinkers, drop back in trip and reduced mark, could be the combined catalyst for a return to form. A line can be drawn through Mr Fustic’s latest run and he is feared most ahead of Eikonix and Subjective Value.

TWILIGHT SECRET Miss Bella Brand

TWILIGHT SECRET was an impressive winner at Wolverhampton on Friday and, off the same mark today, he could take some stopping if in the same form. Cooperation goes for the hat-trick after a quick-fire double at Nottingham earlier this month, but on this different surface he looks opposable. Miss Bella Brand could be the one to chase the selection home after she won over C&D last month and with a 5lb rise looking manageable, she can go close once again

15 Thir d Ra ce PLAY SMARTER TWILIGHT SECRET has a very solid record on AW and returned to form (in first-time blinkers) to score at Wolverhampton 4 days ago, so he makes plenty of appeal off the same mark. Cooperation is a danger in his hat-trick bid and Miss Bella Brand was well on top at the finish over C&D last month, so she’s another one to bear in mind. OPEN MIND Aphelios

Longest Traveller: REIGNING PROFIT trained by R Carr, Stillington, 209 miles.

CITY SELECTIONS

TFRHHHII BHA70

OPEN MIND won on his only previous visit to this track, over this trip, and has held his form admirably since that success in April. The drop back to 6f and switch to all-weather might prove key to Saeed bin Suroor’s charge, who remains on a workable mark of 84 Aphelios might not be done improving yet and is interesting, not least because James Doyle takes the ride on his stable debut for these connections. Bear Profit is another to note.
