Chelmsford City Racecard - Tuesday 12th July

Page 1

Evening Racing Presented by Hills Prospect Tuesday 12th July 2022

Official Programme £3.00

Welcome We have 7 races for you this evening and some of the top jockeys in the world, riding here tonight. We are truly fortunate to have jockeys of this calibre at CCR and, in particular, Ryan Moore and Frankie Dettori stand out, as two of the greatest jockeys riding. I think I am correct in saying that Frankie rode his first Group 1 winner in 1990 on Markofdistinction in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot and has, since then, ridden the winner of every Group 1 race in Great Britain, except the July Cup. He has ridden the winners of the 1000 Guineas four times, the 2000 Guineas three times, the Derby twice, the Oaks six times and the St. Leger six times. It is a truly outstanding record! Ryan Moore did not ride his first Group 1 winner until 2006 but has ridden already the winners of 14 British classics, riding regularly for the powerful stables of Sir Michael Stoute and Aidan O’Brien, both of which have provided him with these classic winners. I hope you have a wonderful evening and that you are able to savour the experience of seeing such world-class talent.

Neil Graham Racing Director For more information about any of these events please visit www.chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

Timeform Rating

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

CITY SELECTIONS DORS TOYBOY has been raised just 1lb for his win at Lingfield over

7f and Harry Burns’ 3lb claim could aid his cause further. The four-year-old was only beaten a nose at this track in May, but the nature of his latest win suggests a step up to 1m should suit. Katie’s Kitten and Hellavapace have recently been progressive and cannot be ruled out. DORS TOYBOY

PLAY SMARTER

DORS TOYBOY’s profile suggests that he’s by no means certain to reproduce the form of last month’s Lingfield success, but he has more going form him than most on the back of that performance and, nudged up just 1lb, the 5-y-o will have every chance if again in the mood. Amalfi Salsa has to be high on the shortlist, for all that she has yet to shed her maiden tag following 15 attempts, while Dark Kris and Laurentia are others to consider.

CITY SELECTIONS Course and distance winner KARIBANA could prove hard to beat if anywhere near his best. He pulled a length-and-a-half clear on his latest outing last month and a 4lb higher mark does not look likely to stop him. Inigo Jones could be better back on the all-weather following a disappointing run at Sandown, while Melody Of Life is another to note having run well at Leicester and Goodwood recently. KARIBANA

CITY SELECTIONS In a competitive contest marginal preference is for VULCAN, who won well at Newcastle late last month and that form was boosted when the second finished fourth in the John Smith’s Cup at York on Saturday. Based on that evidence, a 6lb rise may underestimate the five-year-old. Boss Power was not disgraced in a valuable event at Epsom last time, while Bad Company and Anythingtoday are others who are capable of going well. VULCAN

CITY SELECTIONS Arabian Warrior won well enough at Newcastle last time, but that was taking advantage of a falling handicap mark and he’s up 5lb for this, so NAPPER TANDY gets the vote. Andrew Balding’s charge was beaten less than a length into third at Lingfield when last seen, shaping as though this longer trip might suit, and a recent gelding operation could mean he’s less keen in the early stages.
