Chelmsford City Racecard - Sunday 3rd July

Page 1

Louis Roederer Queen Charlotte Stakes Sunday 3rd July 2022

Official Programme £3.00

Welcome Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse for our biggest raceday of the year. We have an 8-race card for you this afternoon, featuring the Queen Charlotte Stakes. This race was initially run in the 18th and 19th century, in honour of Queen Charlotte, the consort of King George III, and royal approval had to be sought to revive the race five years ago. There is £100,000 on offer for this race and, as you would expect, there is a highly competitive field lining up to win this valuable Listed race. The race was won three years ago by Billesdon Brook, a previous winner of the 1000 Guineas, and last year by Highfield Princess, who won the Group 2, Duke of York Stakes, first time out this year, before being beaten just over a length in the Group 1, Golden Jubilee Stakes, at Royal Ascot recently. It is going to take a top-class filly to win this renewal and we look forward to discovering who will be this year’s winner and to following their progress. I hope you have a marvellous afternoon on this special day’s racing. Neil Graham Racing Director For more information about any of these events please visit www.chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

Timeform Rating

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS ALEXA’S PRINCESS has been campaigned exclusively over 5f so far and could relish this extra two furlongs. The Karl Burke-trained filly outran her odds when finishing fourth at Ripon last month and an opening mark of 65 looks workable. Richard Hannon is represented by Swear and Jilted, with marginal preference for the former who has shown slightly more. Princess Naomi produced her best run to date when third at Chepstow and isn’t dismissed lightly. ALEXA’S PRINCESS

PLAY SMARTER

ALEXA’S PRINCESS is just the type to flourish in nurseries, particularly as her stamina is drawn out, and she looks the pick at the weights here. Candy Rain may not be straightforward given headgear is on so early in her career but she’s a danger with a talented claimer on.

CITY SELECTIONS It is hard to get away from the Michael Bell-trained LILA GIRL, who has won both of her starts this season over C&D and still looks to be improving. She has been given a 6lb rise for her most recent effort and that may not be enough to stop her from landing the hat-trick. Eternal Glory was a shade disappointing at Hamilton last time but, if settling better here, she is worthy of consideration. Adelaise was a respectable fifth on her handicap debut and may still be well treated. LILA GIRL

CITY SELECTIONS G’DAAY was an easy winner at Lingfield just over a week ago when the first-time blinkers appeared to do the trick. They are on again this afternoon and, although a 9lb rise is sure to make things more difficult, he has to be respected. Damaar drops back in trip after being keen at Newmarket last time. Take A Stand finished well at Lingfield last month and could go well if getting the breaks.

CITY SELECTIONS INTERNATIONALANGEL recorded a four-timer over this course and distance last year and it would be no surprise if there was more to come from the five-year-old mare. After a gallant effort behind the subsequent Group 2 winner Highfield Princess on her penultimate start, the daughter of Dark Angel gave a good account to finish second at Longchamp and she gets the nod to land the spoils today. CITY SELECTIONS PRINCESS SHABNAM showed a determined attitude to get the better of a well-fancied rival at this venue last time and hit the line with plenty of conviction. If the progressive three-year-old can reproduce that effort, she rates as a big player and may be able to repeat the victory. Mohareb usually performs well at this venue and must be respected, while Ayr Harbour is another to consider. PRINCESS SHABNAM
