Ladies Day Thursday 16th June 2022

Official Programme £3.00

Welcome Welcome back to Ladies Day at Chelmsford City Racecourse. During the day we will bring you sensational racing, followed by Sophie Ellis-Bextor singing her greatest hits and then the evening will end with a DJ set from Jodie Marsh. It has been three years since we have been able to stage our principal raceday of the year and we are delighted to be hosting this premier event of the social calendar in Essex. Today is the day when fashion, glamour and sartorial elegance take centre stage alongside top-class racing. There are seven races this afternoon for you to test your skills in finding a winner and winners will, as ever, be hard to find. I hope you manage to find one or two to pay for the champagne and that you have a wonderful day.

Neil Graham Racing Director For more information about any of these events please visit www.chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

Timeform Rating

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS TRUE STATESMAN finished a close-up third at Doncaster in April, a race from which the winner followed up and the fourth filled the runner-up berth in the Woodcote. Natural progression should make the son of Churchill tough to beat and he can strike, possibly at the main expense of Dhariye, who was well fancied at Windsor last month. Liberation Bay must enters calculations, though a step forward is required if she’s to trouble the judge. TRUE STATESMAN

CITY SELECTIONS Expert Opinion was narrowly denied at Newmarket last month and is likely to be popular amongst punters, but preference is for LUCKY AVA. Conrad Allen’s charge has been set some stiff assignments of late, most recently in a 0-100 at Goodwood. However, she drops in class and, from 1lb higher than when successful over C&D in February, can regain the winning thread. Just That Lord wasn’t disgraced at Windsor on his latest outing and is another worthy of consideration. LUCKY AVA

LUCKY AVA has run below-par at Epsom and Goodwood on her last 2 starts, but she can bounce back on the all-weather and record a third C&D success. She had previously been in good form on polytrack over the winter, scoring here in February, so she can take advantage of a drop in grade returned to this surface. Expert Opinion goes well at this course and is feared most. Just That Lord is worth considering too.

CITY SELECTIONS OBLONG SONG was sent off at odds of 10-3 in a Sandown novice won by Oaks runner-up Emily Upjohn and, though she failed to land a blow, better was clearly expected. OBLONG SONG had looked a good prospect for middle-distance events this year when runner-up at Nottingham on her second start, so she can build on her reappearance at Sandown (race won by the Oaks-second Emily Upjohn) to open her account at the third attempt. She can get the better of Atlantis Blue who was runner-up over C&D last time, with the well-bred Fine China the pick of the newcomers.

CITY SELECTIONS The value may lie with KARIBANA, who has never been outside the first three in five starts at the track and his most recent effort here gave the impression he would relish the return to a mile. Bashosh has yet to match the early promise he showed as a three-year-old, while Power Of States may not need to improve much on a strong runner-up effort here last week.
