Evening Racing Tuesday 7th June 2022
Official Programme £3.00
Welcome
After an extended weekend of celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we welcome you back this evening for a competitive seven race card with plenty of runners and the promise of some truly exciting racing. Irish Thoroughbred Marketing are sponsoring the first race tonight, for which they are offering, to the winning owner, the incentive of a possible 10,000 euros bonus to be redeemed against their next yearling purchase. We thank them for their sponsorship and trust that the winning owner will take full advantage of this generous scheme. After tonight, racing returns to CCR next Thursday for our ever-popular Ladies Day, when you will be able to immerse yourself in all the charm and allure of a quintessentially English day’s racing in the Essex countryside. The ladies will be dressed in their finery and this is an occasion when high fashion takes centre stage alongside the spectacle of some of the best thoroughbred racing to be seen. As soon as the racing is finished, Sophie Ellis-Bextor will take to the stage to sing some of her greatest hits, followed by a DJ set. This will be a day to savour and certainly not one to miss. Have a wonderful evening and we look forward to seeing you next week. Neil Graham Racing Director For more information about any of these events please visit www.chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

Timeform Rating
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS THUNDER CAT was strong in the market prior to his racecourse debut at York but Andrew Balding’s charge was unable to repay his supporters. The son of Roaring Lion can build on that effort, though, and with the step up in trip likely to aid his chances, he can strike. Indian Dream filled the runner-up berth at Newmarket last month and he features prominently in calculations, along with Prince Nabeel. Of the newcomers, Tribal Master makes the most appeal. PRINCE NABEEL and Indian Dream both shaped with plenty of promise on their respective debuts and could be the pair to focus on, the former shading the vote on account of his draw in stall 1. CITY SELECTIONS THE CHARMER has seemingly improved for the step up to 7f and though the gelding ran creditably at Brighton on his latest outing, the return to a synthetic surface could see him to greater effect. Mike Murphy’s charge is berthed nicely in stall two and he can repel the challenge of Lethal Angel, who may find improvement in a first-time visor. Richard Hughes employs the services of William Buick on Villalobos, which may be an indicator of his chances. THE CHARMER

A decidedly trappy contest with the tentative vote in favour of CAPE CORNWALL ROSE. CITY SELECTIONS This year’s Derby-winning combination could taste more success with KODIAC SIGN, who ran creditably on his seasonal reappearance and with further improvement likely, he can shed the maiden tag. The Gosdens opt for first-time cheekpieces with Dukedom, who must be respected, while Islay Of Anglesey has run to a similar level in his two career starts and he ought to be involved. Western Writer represents powerful connections and he enters calculations, though the draw could have been kinder. KODIAC SIGN

CITY SELECTIONS MEHMENTO drops in class following a string of consistent efforts and, back down to his last winning mark, Archie Watson’s gelding can regain the winning thread. Sir Oliver was narrowly denied over C&D last month and he’s feared most, though Revolutionise is no forlorn hope. Karibana is similarly well handicapped from a mark of 89 (last successful from 2lb higher) so he’s another to consider in a wide open contest. MEHMENTO
