Evening Racing Thursday 5th May 2022
Official Programme £3.00
Welcome The next month sees our events calendar really swing into full action with some truly exciting events. A week on Saturday, 14th May, we have the Spring Beer Festival with German beer, food and the world-famous Bavarian Stompers. Two weeks after that we have the multi-platinum DJ duo, Sigma, on 28th May; these two DJs have had a string of hits, such as Changing and Nobody to Love, as well as collaborations with artists such as Take That, Rita Ora, Paloma Faith and Ella Henderson. Then, a few days later, on Thursday, 2nd June, to kick off the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, we welcome One Night of Queen, who will be planning to ‘rock’ us with some of Queen’s greatest hits. All of these events run alongside our fantastic racing schedule, during which we bring you some of the best horses, jockeys and trainers in the world, competing against each other, in truly world-class racing. We have seven races for you this evening and let’s hope there are some future champions amongst them. The races look highly competitive and, I am sure, winners will be hard to find but I wish you good luck and hope you have a wonderful evening.
Neil Graham Racing Director For more information about any of these events please visit www.chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

Timeform Rating
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS KATH’S TOYBOY has been knocking hard on the door of late, with two second-placed finishes last month, and the four-year-old should take plenty of stopping this evening. Irish Times is an obvious threat to the selection having been beaten just a nose over 7f here a month ago, while So Grateful and Deevious Beau are others who merit places on the shortlist.

CITY SELECTIONS ANOTHER ROMANCE confirmed the promise that she displayed on debut when bolting up at Wolverhampton last month. That form was boosted when the second won on her next outing, which suggests that this daughter of Night Of Thunder will be hard to beat tonight despite carrying a penalty. CITY SELECTIONS Sir Gregory seeks to double up after scoring over 6f here last week but may find a 5lb penalty too much now dropping down in trip. Therefore, preference is for WINGS OF A DOVE, who despite also being handed a 5lb penalty, won comfortably over 5f on her latest run and she looks very comfortable at this level. Hey Ho Let’s Go also looks feasibly treated, having been given a 3lb rise for his latest win. WINGS OF A DOVE

WINGS OF A DOVE finally got off the mark at the nineteenth attempt under this excellent 7-lb claimer at Lingfield last week. She’s been competitive from much higher marks previously and looks the one to side with here under a penalty. Bernard Spierpoint seemed unsuited by the track at Newcastle last time so he heads up the opposition back from a short break, with Sir Gregory also fancied to feature having scored at this venue last week.

CITY SELECTIONS FIGURES emulated her penultimate run last time at Kempton, where she stepped up in trip to force a dead-heat with Seven Pockets over 1m3f. CITY SELECTIONS The Andrew Balding stable won this last year and run Wolverhampton winner Upton Park here, but he has to give 7lb or more to the others of his age group, which looks a big ask. Sonairt ran promisingly when third at Kempton and is interesting stepping up in trip, but SABYINYO might have his measure. Beaten a neck over further after making the running at Bath, and clear of the third, he may prove harder to catch over this distance. SABYINYO
