Evening Racing Thursday 17th February 2022
Official Programme £3.00
Welcome Our feature race tonight is the £25,000 chelmsfordcityracecourse.com Fillies’ Conditions Stakes, which is the last of the four Fast-Track Qualifiers for the £150,000 Coral All-Weather Fillies’ and Mares’ Championship. Highfield Princess, already a four-time winner at CCR, including the Listed Queen Charlotte Fillies’ Stakes, heads a competitive field and John Quinn, her trainer, has this to say regarding her chances: “It is her first run for a while but she goes there in good fettle and we know she enjoys the track.” The race is, by no means, a one horse contest with William Haggas sending two-time winner Arousing, Khatwah arrives on the back of three wins in handicaps, Fauvette has won twice over 6 furlongs at CCR, Rising Star is 3 for 4 on the all-weather and Camachess is a five-time winner on the all-weather. We look forward to an exciting evening’s racing and trust you have a wonderful time. Neil Graham Racing Director For more information about any of these events please visit www.chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

Timeform Rating
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

CITY SELECTIONS Cases can be made for a few but the casting vote goes to PORFIN, who was not disgraced when finishing second at Southwell last week. The son of Belardo has been holding his form well on the all-weather this winter and he can build on his recent effort now dropping back to this shorter trip. Amasova is not to be underestimated after her success at Wolverhampton earlier in the month, while Mick’s Spirit and Portelet Bay also make the shortlist. PORFIN

PLAY SMARTER
A very competitive sprint handicap to kick the card off. A chance is taken on CUBAN BREEZE having her first start for David Evans. The yard does well with horses from other yards and she is on a career-low mark. Mick’s Spirit has been consistent of late and he’ll be a danger. Autumn Trail could offer some each-way value too.

CITY SELECTIONS A tight affair but preference is for GOT NO DOLLARS, who was well on top in the final furlong when scoring at Kempton last month. The son of Showcasing was given a 5lb rise for that success but it might not be enough to stop him from following up now returning to this shorter distance. Martineo looks to be the danger and he is respected after winning at Wolverhampton on his latest outing, while La Roca Del Fuego and Thaki can also figure. GOT NO DOLLARS

CITY SELECTIONS HIGHFIELD PRINCESS enjoyed a terrific campaign in 2021 with victories at Royal Ascot and over C&D in Listed company being the highlights. John Quinn’s mare held her form throughout the season, ending it with a very creditable effort when sixth in the Champions Sprint at Ascot, and this represents an ideal opportunity for her to make a winning return to action. The rest look to have their work cut out to beat the selection, but Arousing, a half-sister to One Master, and Khatwah appear best of the remainder. HIGHFIELD PRINCESS

ENFRANCHISE is on the up and quickened nicely to score at Lingfield last time, so she gets the nod over the in-form Coase, who is also unexposed at this sort of trip. Elmejor is arguably the pick of the remainder, but he’s dependent on a solid gallop.
