Chelmsford City Racecard - Saturday 6th November

Page 1

Evening Racing SATURDAY 6th NOVEMBER 2021

Official Programme £3.00

Welcome SATURDAY NIGHT RACING AT CCR! Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse (CCR) for what is our final Saturday night fixture of 2021. It’s going to be a cracker! It has undoubtedly been a difficult time for all of us up and down the country, so it has been fantastic to see people really enjoying themselves back at CCR in the past few months. Whilst we’re lucky to have lots of outdoor space here, we can all still play our part during to the ongoing covid situation. As such, we encourage you to continue with some good practices that can benefit you and your fellow racegoers. Please wear a face mask at your discretion indoors in busier areas and continue to use the hand sanitisers available. Thank you. The eight races this evening have attracted a bumper 82 runners, and they’ll all be looking to win a share of the £64,000 prize money pot that’s on offer. The feature event on our card tonight is race two at 3.28pm - the £19,000 “EBF Conditions Stakes” over a mile and two furlongs. Four interesting two year olds are in the line-up for this quality contest and several top trainers are represented. Previous experience is thin on the ground with all four colts having run a total of only six times before. But one of them, Charlie Appleby’s Nations Pride, really stands out on form. His two runs have been pretty impressive, especially last time at Lingfield when cruising to victory. He will be very difficult to beat despite the unknown element of the extra two furlongs today and can land the spoils again with Derby-winning Adam Kirby in the saddle. We hope you have a fantastic time with your friends and family this evening. Our next fixture is this Thursday night, 11th November when we’ll hope to see you again for all the colour, fun and excitement of floodlit horseracing at Chelmsford City Racecourse. And remember – Christmas party season is nearly here, so be sure to book a great night out at one of our weekend parties throughout December. Fraser Garrity Racecourse Manager

Timeform Rating

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

CITY SELECTIONS PRISM was well held at Newmarket last time but her previous form in a valuable nursery at Doncaster suggests that she will be hard to beat this afternoon. Lyrical Lady has made the frame on her last couple of starts and she should be in the mix once again, while Kennet and Borntobealeader are others who merit places on the shortlist.

PLAY SMARTER

KENNET looks a likely improver making his handicap debut for a leading yard. He’s shaped encouragingly in all three runs, including when third at Leicester last month, and he’s the one to beat. Sydney Street had little go right from a wide draw on handicap debut last month and he may have more to offer today. Lyrical Lady has to be taken seriously on handicap debut too.

CITY SELECTIONS NATIONS PRIDE confirmed the promise that he displayed on debut when winning easily over a mile at Lingfield 33 days ago and he is very hard to oppose in this contest. CITY SELECTIONS DOOLILY has filled second place on her last two starts and this appears to be an ideal opportunity for the daughter of Due Diligence to go one better. That said, Scotch Mistress has shown promise in both of her previous appearances and she should not be underestimated. Silver Kitten is respected but could be vulnerable under a penalty, while Whimsy is a newcomer who may go well.

CITY SELECTIONS This is a tight call between the two last-time-out winners in TRUMBLE and If You Dare, with slight preference for David Loughnane’s charge, who already has a C&D win to his name and was too hot to handle over shorter last month. The latter was a taking winner in his own right over C&D last month but a wide draw may scupper his chances here. Liberated Lady also merits consideration dropped in grade. TRUMBLE

TRUMBLE makes plenty of appeal having won easily over 6f at this venue last month, his second win here. He has been lightly raced this year and he likely has more to offer. If You Dare is another recent course winner that should go close. Liberated Lady will appreciate the step up in trip and she has each-way claims. Any money for Pettinger should be noted.

CITY SELECTIONS River Chorus would not be winning out of turn following some excellent efforts at Wolverhampton and Kempton the last twice. She is winless from 12 starts, though, and the vote instead goes to BARRINGTON, who hinted at a return to winning ways when coming home strongly for second at Kempton recently. The seven-year-old can take advantage of a mark 30lb lower than his latest success. Rinty Maginty, Glen Rosa and Adace complete the shortlist. BARRINGTON

A chance is taken on RUBY LILY in what is a low-grade affair. She has had excuses on her last two runs and, with Adam Kirby taking over from an apprentice, she looks the best option in a thin-looking field. River Chorus has been knocking on the door and she has to be respected. A case can also be made for Barrington.

CITY SELECTIONS This could finally be the day that things click for DORS TOYBOY, who ran with credit here last month in a contest where the first and second have both gone on to win since. The selection has been runner-up over C&D twice in the past which bodes well for this assignment. An impressive winner himself over C&D, Hanoverian King must prove that was no fluke off a mark 5lb higher. Course specialist Vincenzo Coccotti and Tell’em Nowt both make plenty of appeal as well. HANOVERIAN KING caused an upset over C&D in September after a gelding operation. He’s been raised 5lb but it might be the case that he’s a much improved horse since that procedure. He’s chanced to get the double up today. Vincenzo Coccotti is at the veteran stage of his career now but he still knows how to win so will be a threat. Eljaytee could improve to take a hand too.

CITY SELECTIONS EXPERT OPINION didn’t get the clearest run when finishing fourth at this track last month and, with the step up in trip unlikely to pose a problem, the three-year-old makes the most convincing case. Fauvette remains unexposed on this surface and can have a major say in proceedings, while Tyger Bay has the talent to get involved despite facing a wide draw.

PLAY SMARTER

FAUVETTE could be forgiven her disappointing effort at Pontefract in attritional conditions and she can bounce back. She’s a winner on polytrack and looked as though she was progressing when winning at Yarmouth in September. Expert Opinion has won here and showed more last time so warrants respect. Lilkian is next on the list.

CITY SELECTIONS FORGE VALLEY LAD was doing his best work in the closing stages when finishing sixth on his stable debut at Wolverhampton last month and with that run expected to bring him forward, the David Simcock-trained gelding is tipped to land the spoils. Fen Tiger ran well despite racing wide at Nottingham on his latest start and is respected, while Prince Abu may outrun his odds now returning to an artificial surface. FORGE VALLEY LAD

PLAY SMARTER

FORGE VALLEY LAD was a winner off this mark last year and made an encouraging debut for David Simcock over an inadequate trip at Wolverhampton last time, so he’s worth chancing to come out on top in this open-looking event. Engrave is well treated and shaped as if back in form last time, so she’s feared most, while Headley George could feature if stall 13 doesn’t scupper him.
