Chelmsford City Racecard - Thursday 4th November

Evening Racing THURSDAY 4th NOVEMBER 2021

Official Programme £3.00

Welcome THURSDAY NIGHT RACING AT CCR! Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse (CCR) for one of our signature Thursday nights under our famous floodlights. It has undoubtedly been a difficult time for all of us up and down the country, so it has been fantastic to see people really enjoying themselves back at CCR in recent months. Whilst we’re lucky to have lots of outdoor space here, we can all still play our part during to the ongoing covid situation. As such, we encourage you to continue with some good practices that can benefit you and your fellow racegoers. Please wear a face mask at your discretion indoors in busier areas and continue to use the hand sanitisers available. The guidance around “hands, face, fresh air” remains important for us all. Thank you. The eight races this evening have attracted a huge 95 runners, and they’ll all be looking to win a share of the £62,000 prize money pot that’s on offer. The feature event on our card tonight is race five at 4.55pm - the £19,000 “The Chelmsford City Racecourse Christmas Party Nights Handicap Stakes” over a mile and two furlongs. Seven talented runners are in the line-up for this quality handicap and it’s an intriguing contest. Four of the field have won here before and that’s often a very good pointer at CCR. So it’s one of those, Hugo Palmer’s Power of States, that catches the eye today. His last two runs have been on turf in major handicap races at Royal Ascot and York but tonight sees him return to an all-weather surface where he has a fantastic record of five wins (4 of them at CCR) from ten career runs. Furthermore, three of those wins were here over this evening’s distance around this time last year. He can land the spoils again with Cieren Fallon in the saddle. We hope you have a fantastic time with your friends and family this evening. Our next fixture is this Saturday night, 6th November when we’ll hope to see you again for all the colour, fun and excitement of floodlit horseracing at Chelmsford City Racecourse. And remember – Christmas party season is nearly here, so be sure to book a great night out at one of our weekend parties throughout December. Fraser Garrity Racecourse Manager

Timeform Rating

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS NOBLE ORDER lost a left-hind shoe when runner-up on his debut at Newmarket to a potentially smart individual and Charlie Appleby’s colt is entitled to have learnt plenty from that initial effort. Assessment has to be respected on his debut as the son of Kingman comes from a smart, home-bred family, while others to note include Manaafith and Court Of Session.

CITY SELECTIONS There shouldn’t be much between Internationalangel (first) and Legende D’art (third) on their C&D clash last month and both can go well again here. However, the vote goes to bottom-weight WONDER STARELZAAM, who is quickly turned out after an impressive victory on stable debut at Lingfield. Due to go up 9lb in the near future, Dennis Coakley looks to have found an ideal opportunity for the three-year-old to follow up. Yarmouth winner Broxi must also enter calculations, along with Maysong and Covert Mission. WONDER STARELZAAM

A competitive affair. Having had to come wide INTERNATIONALANGEL can perhaps have her latest C&D win marked up slightly so she may be capable of defying a small rise. Wonder Starelzaam escapes a penalty for last week’s Lingfield win so will be an obvious danger if the outside stall isn’t too big an inconvenience. CITY SELECTIONS The fact the Mark Johnston team kept LIVING LEGEND in training after an absence that spanned over two years tells you all you need to know about the regard in which he is held. His victory at Pontefract was proof that the ability remains and a 7lb rise for that success may not be enough to stop him from gaining a fifth career win. You’re Hired did it well here last time but his record over this distance does not inspire confidence, and the bigger threat may be the consistent Lucander. LIVING LEGEND

PLAY SMARTER

Preference is for MR MONEYPENNY, who did well to finish as close as he did from a bad draw at Kempton last time and a reproduction of that effort would give him every chance.
