Evening Racing THURSDAY 14th OCTOBER 2021

Official Programme £3.00

Welcome THURSDAY NIGHT UNDER THE LIGHTS! Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse for another signature Thursday night under our unique floodlights. It has undoubtedly been a difficult time for all of us up and down the country and we’re delighted to be able to offer our guests some normality once again. It has been fantastic to see people really enjoying themselves here at CCR in recent months. Whilst we are lucky to have plenty of outdoor space here, we can all continue play our part in relation to the ongoing covid situation. As such, we would encourage you to continue with some good practices recommended at all racecourses as these can benefit you and fellow racegoers. Please wear a face mask at your discretion indoors in busier areas and continue to use the hand sanitisers available. The guidance around “hands, face, space, fresh air” remains important for us all. Thank you. The seven races this evening have attracted 69 runners, and they’ll all be looking to win a share of the £55,000 prize money pot that’s on offer. The feature event on our card tonight is race six at 8.00pm - the £11,500 “tote.co.uk Now Never Beaten by SP Handicap Stakes” over a mile. Twelve talented milers are in the line-up for this quality handicap, and it has all the makings of a hot race! Half of the field have won here before and one of those, Roger Varian’s Jumaira Bay, looks to have a good chance of landing the spoils tonight. The four-year-old won a very similar race here in June before finishing down the field in one of our big races of the year, the Chelmsford City Cup, in August. He was one of the favourites that day but could never recover from a bad start. But the extra furlong should suit him this evening and he’ll be running on strongly near the finish. We hope you have a fabulous time with your friends and family this evening. Our next fixture is Saturday night, 23rd October, when we’ll hope to see you again for all the colour, fun and excitement of floodlit horseracing at Chelmsford City Racecourse. And remember – Christmas party season is nearly here, so be sure to book a cracking night out at one of our weekend parties throughout December. Fraser Garrity Racecourse Manager

Timeform Rating

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS SUN RISING was only narrowly denied over an extended mile at Wolverhampton earlier in the month and she may be hard to beat once again today off just a 1lb higher mark. Copperknob was not disgraced on his handicap debut recently and he remains unexposed, while Eight Of Diamonds and Alpine Lady are others who merit consideration in an open contest.

CITY SELECTIONS BILLY MILL seems to save his best form for the all-weather after recording an encouraging second-placed effort at Wolverhampton earlier this month. The three-year-old colt gets the vote to build on that performance and is able to race off the same mark here. Eagle Creek appears to be the chief threat after his latest success but he has to overcome a 7lb rise and a wide draw, while If You Dare, Prince Of Abington and Riknnah also hold claims in an open contest. CITY SELECTIONS LORD LOVELACE bumped into a smart prospect, who has subsequently franked the form, when last seen seen over this C&D. The son of Invincible Spirit will have to concede weight all round but he appears to have too much class for these rivals. Under The Twilight made a pleasing start to her racing career when recording a fourth-placed finish at Kempton and looks to be the main danger, while Golden Owl also merits consideration trying first-time blinkers. Ready preference is for LORD LOVELACE, who did the job well on debut at Kempton prior to chasing home Sunray Major over this C&D last month, in turn pulling clear of next-time-out winner Great Hunter. Sunray Major has also boosted that form since with a cosy handicap success at Ascot. Under The Twilight made an encouraging start to her career at Kempton and she is next best ahead of Alhammaam.

CITY SELECTIONS The Roger Varian-trained MONTATHER has yet to fully deliver on some of his early promise but his return to this track is a positive as he has registered wins on both of his starts here, while the drop back to a mile also looks a sensible move judging on recent efforts. Piece Of History looks a worthy rival after suffering an interrupted passage at Haydock on his latest start. Far Hope posted arguably a career-best effort when finishing a close third at Thirsk last time and is also respected. MONTATHER

MONTATHER hasn’t had much go his way the last twice and now finds himself back down in grade bidding to maintain an unbeaten record on polytrack, so he makes plenty of appeal from an ideal draw.
