HORSE WELFARE AT CATTERICK

At all Catterick race meetings we has a minimum of two fully qualified equine vets who are employed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. They work closely with a British Horseracing Authority Veterinary Officer who is also always in attendance. In the unfortunate event of an accident or a horse becoming hurt or injured, the racecourse vets are on hand to act swiftly and treat a horse without delay

It is now standard procedure that all racecourses have modern, fully equipped horse ambulances so that horses can be moved and treated in more comfort. If a horse is injured out on the course, the vets and their assistants will erect screens enabling them to work in private - the use of screens will not automatically mean the horse has been seriously injured. Serious injuries at Catterick Racecourse are thankfully very rare, but we regard any injury, however slight it may be, an absolute priority and we would like to assure all racegoers that we have the right people, the right equipment and right procedures to deal with them efficiently

FIRST AID

Will all racegoers please note the location of the first aid post which is at the entrance to the Disabled Car Park.

RACE CONDITIONS

For today’s race conditions, please see page 31.

SHUTTLE BUS

Catterick are pleased to announce that they are now providing a shuttle bus service between the racecourse and Richmond town centre. Today the shuttle bus will leave the main entrance approximately 10 minutes after the last race. For further details please contact the Racecourse Office.

11. Timeform Rating (TRF) Each horse is given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not without hope.

HIIII Given little or no chance.

Form Additions

/ = denotes new season - = denotes new year

C = Course Winner

D = Distance Winner CD = Course & Distance Winner

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

BF = Beaten Favourite

d = disqualified

Bold form figures = All-Weather form

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Motawazzy

Official equine ambassador for Catterick Racecourse

Motawaazy is owned by Victoria, who has owned him through his racing career, since 2019. In July 2024 he retired from racing, and he went to live with Victoria, where her four year old daughter Zara is completely obsessed with him.

Motawaazy loves being groomed by Zara and her friends and just loves having a good pamper. His favourite pastimes are sleeping and eating. He is greedy and lives for his next meal!

Retraining of Racehorses

RoR is British Horseracing’s official charity for the welfare of horses that have retired from racing. The charity promotes the versatility and adaptability of racehorses for other equestrian activities following their retirement from racing.

The Horses for Courses scheme, supported by Godolphin, showcases the wide range of disciplines that racehorses go on to enjoy after their racing careers have ended, providing racegoers with an ongoing opportunity to meet and learn more about racing’s biggest stars – the horses!

Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): W Haggas (7 wins from 43 runners, 16Q) runs BITTALEMON

Longest Traveller: BITTALEMON trained by W Haggas & GENESIUS trained by Sir M Prescott, Newmarket, both 205 miles.

BITTALEMON upped her game in first-time blinkers at Epsom and handled the soft ground well, so she makes most appeal in the hope that she can do better still. The Dancing Poet enhanced an excellent track record when scoring last month, so he’s a big danger, while Bulldog Spirit is worthy of respect.
