HORSE WELFARE AT CATTERICK

At all Catterick race meetings we has a minimum of two fully qualified equine vets who are employed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. They work closely with a British Horseracing Authority Veterinary Officer who is also always in attendance. In the unfortunate event of an accident or a horse becoming hurt or injured, the racecourse vets are on hand to act swiftly and treat a horse without delay.

It is now standard procedure that all racecourses have modern, fully equipped horse ambulances so that horses can be moved and treated in more comfort. If a horse is injured out on the course, the vets and their assistants will erect screens enabling them to work in private - the use of screens will not automatically mean the horse has been seriously injured. Serious injuries at Catterick Racecourse are thankfully very rare, but we regard any injury, however slight it may be, an absolute priority and we would like to assure all racegoers that we have the right people, the right equipment and right procedures to deal with them efficiently

FIRST AID

Will all racegoers please note the location of the first aid post which is at the entrance to the Disabled Car Park.

RACE CONDITIONS

For today’s race conditions, please see page 31.

SHUTTLE BUS

Catterick are pleased to announce that they are now providing a shuttle bus service between the racecourse and Richmond town centre. Today the shuttle bus will leave the main entrance approximately 10 minutes after the last race. For further details please contact the Racecourse Office.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

Bold form figures = All-Weather form

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Look out for the charity Racing to School today; you shouldn’t miss them as they will be leading a group of local pupils and their teachers through every corner of the racecourse for an action-packed day of fun challenges and discovery The charity works nationwide with over 250 schools, and this year will reach around 16,000 young people – at UK racecourses, trainers’yards and studs.

They deliver free, outdoor activity days to support the learning and to boost the self-confidence of children aged nine and above. Racing to School uses racing venues as unique, fast-moving classrooms full of opportunities to practise and improve subjects like maths, literacy and problem-solving.

The charity is only able to support young people’s education through the kind donations it receives. Please scan this QR code to donate, if you can.

TODAY’S TIP

It could be worth chancing LIFETIME LEGEND, who hasn’t been firing on all cylinders of late but he’s now 11lb below the mark off which he beat Belle Na Bann in convincing fashion in this race last season. Zwicky needs to bounce back following a shocker at Southwell but he was in good order prior to that and is second choice ahead of Out of Focus and Misty Mani. If Molto Bene were to line up she would warrant serious consideration but she is due to run at Plumpton on Monday

Longest Traveller: AMERICAN GERRY trained by H Morrison, East Ilsley, 234 miles.

TODAY’S TIP

Having won impressively on his penultimate start at Doncaster, PRAIRIE WOLF acquitted himself with plenty of credit when fourth in the Timeform Novices’ Handicap Chase at Cheltenham 31 days ago, tiring late on having pressed an upwardly-mobile sort from the off He’s well worth another chance given the strength of that race. Carrigeen Castle is progressing at a rate of knots himself and is feared in his hat-trick bid. Blue Fin completes the shortlist.
