BETTING RING ENQUIRIES All Betting Ring Enquiries should be directed to the Betting Ring Manager. BIG SCREEN Catterick Racecourse are pleased to announce that the big screen is present at today’s race meeting and will be at all Catterick’s fixtures during 2023. CASH MACHINE A cash machine is available for use in the Gods Solution Bar. COMMUNICATION DEVICES The use of tablets and laptops is strictly controlled on all racecourses and they may not be used in or near any designated betting area, or for off course betting purposes. Failure to comply could result in your removal from the premises as per the Terms and Conditions of entry. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES In the event of an incident which necessitates the partial or total evacuation of any area of the racecourse, announcements will be made over the Public Address and on the CCTV. Please follow the directions of the racecourse staff and leave your area in a calm and orderly manner. If you feel you require extra assistance please notify the nearest member of the racecourse staff. FACILITIES FOR DISABLED RACEGOERS Facilities for Disabled Racegoers – Viewing ramps for wheelchair users only are situated next to the parade ring and in front of the grandstand. Disabled toilet facilities are available in the Gods Solution bar, next to the Luncheon Suite, next to the disabled car park and in the Course Enclosure facilities. HORSERACE BETTING LEVY BOARD The Horserace Betting Levy Board prize fund schemes provide for the estimated inclusion of £206,645 in ratecard and incremental prize money at this racecourse from September to December 2023. HORSE WELFARE AT CATTERICK At all Catterick race meetings we has a minimum of two fully qualified equine vets who are employed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. They work closely with a British Horseracing Authority Veterinary Officer who is also always in attendance. In the unfortunate event of an accident or a horse becoming hurt or injured, the racecourse vets are on hand to act swiftly and treat a horse without delay. It is now standard procedure that all racecourses have modern, fully equipped horse ambulances so that horses can be moved and treated in more comfort. If a horse is injured out on the course, the vets and their assistants will erect screens enabling them to work in private - the use of screens will not automatically mean the horse has been seriously injured. Serious injuries at Catterick Racecourse are thankfully very rare, but we regard any injury, however slight it may be, an absolute priority and we would like to assure all racegoers that we have the right people, the right equipment and right procedures to deal with them efficiently. FIRST AID Will all racegoers please note the location of the first aid post which is at the entrance to the Disabled car Park. RACE CONDITIONS For today’s race conditions, please see page 31. SHUTTLE BUS Catterick are pleased to announce that they are now providing a shuttle bus service between the racecourse and Richmond town centre. Today the shuttle bus will leave the main entrance approximately 10 minutes after the last race. For further details please contact the Racecourse Office.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Look out for the charity Racing to School today; you shouldn’t miss them as they will be leading a group of local pupils and their teachers through every corner of the racecourse for an action-packed day of fun challenges and discovery. The charity works nationwide with over 250 schools, and this year will reach around 16,000 young people – at UK racecourses, trainers’ yards and studs. They deliver free, outdoor activity days to support the learning and to boost the self-confidence of children aged nine and above. Racing to School uses

TODAY’S TIP Most arrive with claims in the opener and with that in mind it could be worth chancing last year’s winner BALKOTIC. Though out of sorts this summer, there was encouragement to glean from his latest Wetherby effort and, with the visor back on, it would come as no surprise to see him go well operating 1lb below his last winning mark. Raceday preview from Weatherbys The consistent Geronimo heads the weights for the Weatherbys nhstallions.co.uk Handicap Chase under champion jockey Brian Hughes, who has finished runner-up on his last three starts, most recently behind Homme Public (fortunate winner of a Grade 2 last week) at Wetherby in October.
Three last time out winners contest our first sponsored race. Arthur’s Quay emerged victorious under similar conditions at Cartmel, Getaway Luv was a winner at Wetherby and Hello Judge was a winner at Carlisle. The latter remains quite lightly-raced and although he will be racing from 2lbs out of the handicap, he shouldn’t be dismissed if he does line up (also declared at Newcastle on Thursday). Dan Skelton’s Tokay Dokey returns from a 655-day break whilst Mick Maestro is having his second start following a 544-day absence. Ganapathi makes his third start for Mike Smith and he shaped a little better than the bare result in the Grand Sefton at Aintree last time. Nine-year-old duo Mister Bells (well-beaten behind Hello Judge last time) and Quoi de Neuf complete the field. The latter was a long way WEATHERBYS RACEDAY PREVIEW
behind Arthur’s Quay at Cartmel during the summer, but he is now 2lbs lower than his last winning mark. Seven go to post for the penultimate race on the card, the weatherbysshop.co.uk Handicap Chase, with the weights headed by Kayf Hernando for Dan Skelton and Ben Sutton, who claims 7lbs. He is 2-5 over fences and might strip fitter for his recent reappearance at Plumpton. Almazhar Garde is the sole course winner in the field, although that success came almost four years ago. Twoshotsoftequila meanwhile finished runner-up to Hello Judge at Carlisle on his return and is now just 3lbs higher. Shanty Alley and Court At Slip are making their respective seasonal returns, whilst Some Scope is another who is likely to have benefitted for his recent reappearance run. This is just his second chase start, so he remains completely unexposed. Anti Bridgie is also having just her second start over fences, having run well over a shade further at Carlisle. The shorter trip is likely to suit and any further rain would enhance her claims yet further. The six-year-old represents the in-form stable of Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero and looks to be a leading contender.

TODAY’S TIP HELLO JUDGE has got back on track over fences this season, showing a determined attitude when scoring at Carlisle last month, and he can continue his good run of form to follow up. RACE FACTS Leading course trainer (18-23): R Menzies (12 wins from 53 runners, 23%) runs TWOSHOTSOFTEQUILA Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): O Greenall & J Guerriero (7 wins from 25 runners, 28%) runs ANTI BRIDGIE Longest Travellers: SOME SCOPE trained by R Hobson, Little Rissington, 202 miles. ALMAZHAR GARDE trained by C Longsdon, Chipping Norton, 202 miles.
TODAY’S TIP SOME SCOPE was an improver across a light hurdling campaign last year and would have finished much closer at Wetherby if not for a bad mistake on chase debut, so is given the nod to make it second time lucky in this sphere. Twoshotsoftequila was caught only late at Carlisle last time and is another for the shortlist, with Anti Bridgie and Shanty Alley also considered in a open-looking event. 1-2-3: 1.SOME SCOPE 2.TWOSHOTSOFTEQUILA (IRE) 3.ANTI BRIDGIE (IRE) Br Breeding
