HORSE WELFARE AT CATTERICK

At all Catterick race meetings we has a minimum of two fully qualified equine vets who are employed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. They work closely with a British Horseracing Authority Veterinary Officer who is also always in attendance. In the unfortunate event of an accident or a horse becoming hurt or injured, the racecourse vets are on hand to act swiftly and treat a horse without delay. It is now standard procedure that all racecourses have modern, fully equipped horse ambulances so that horses can be moved and treated in more comfort. If a horse is injured out on the course, the vets and their assistants will erect screens enabling them to work in private - the use of screens will not automatically mean the horse has been seriously injured. Serious injuries at Catterick Racecourse are thankfully very rare, but we regard any injury, however slight it may be, an absolute priority and we would like to assure all racegoers that we have the right people, the right equipment and right procedures to deal with them efficiently

FIRST AID

Will all racegoers please note the location of the first aid post which is at the entrance to the Disabled car Park.

RACE CONDITIONS

For today’s race conditions, please see page 31.

SHUTTLE BUS

Catterick are pleased to announce that they are now providing a shuttle bus service between the racecourse and Richmond town centre. Today the shuttle bus will leave the main entrance approximately 10 minutes after the last race. For further details please contact the Racecourse Office.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

BF = Beaten Favourite

d = disqualified

Bold form figures = All-Weather form

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Weightwatcher: MUTANAASEQ won off a handicap mark of 67, his rating is now down 17lb to 50.

Longest Traveller: RAIN CAP trained by John David Riches, Pilling, 91 miles.

TODAY’S TIP

OBEE JO has dropped to a career-low mark and could be set to cash in back at the scene of his last success following a satisfactory return at Doncaster Two Summers went close in that same race and can make another bold bid despite a 4lb rise. Liberty Breeze is another to note back at Catterick (both her wins have come here).

George Boughey won this with a newcomer last year so the suggestion is PRETTY FLAG, with confidence in her chance increased should the betting vibes be strong. Laura’s Breeze and Themainprotagonist look best of those with experience, while Final Credit is another debutant who is a likely type on paper and needs keeping a close eye on in the betting.

COLD HENRY has been an improved performer since stepping up to long distances and signed last season off with a pair of C&D successes, so is fancied to continue his progress on return. While TURBULENT POWER remains a maiden following 17 appearances in this sphere, she has been knocking firmly on the door of late and is taken to deservedly open her account. Prince Achille should be on the premises if able to back up his latest effort and Jamih, who goes well here, won’t be far away either if fully tuned-up for this assignment.
