OFFICIAL RACE PROGRAMME & FORM GUIDE £2.00 TUESDAY 25TH OCTOBER 2022 FINAL FLAT MEETING OF THE SEASON

BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

OFFICIAL
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. HOW TO READ YOUR RACECARD Breeding, Owner, Trainer & jockey are now defined by coloured symbols show above. 1. Jockey Colours 2. Saddlecloth Number 3. Horse Name 4. Days Since Last Ran 5. HORSE WELFARE AT CATTERICK

At all Catterick race meetings we has a minimum of two fully qualified equine vets who are employed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. They work closely with a British Horseracing Authority Veterinary Officer who is also always in attendance. In the unfortunate event of an accident or a horse becoming hurt or injured, the racecourse vets are on hand to act swiftly and treat a horse without delay. It is now standard procedure that all racecourses have modern, fully equipped horse ambulances so that horses can be moved and treated in more comfort. If a horse is injured out on the course, the vets and their assistants will erect screens enabling them to work in private the use of screens will not automatically mean the horse has been seriously injured. Serious injuries at Catterick Racecourse are thankfully very rare, but we regard any injury, however slight it may be, an absolute priority and we would like to assure all racegoers that we have the right people, the right equipment and right procedures to deal with them efficiently

FIRST AID

Will all racegoers please note the location of the first aid post which is at the entrance to the Disabled car Park

TIP

The vote goes to BAY BREEZE, who has edged back down to the mark off which he hit the target at Ripon in June and shaped as though his turn may again be near when fourth at Beverley last time. Black Friday has scored during the month of October for the past 3 seasons and is also promising more to come good judged on his recent C&D fourth. He is second choice ahead of Music Society, who has to be feared on the back of his latest effort in a Class 2

here, and dual C&D winner Lezardrieux.
