We had a big mover in the Jockey’s Challenge on Day 5 of racing Danny McMenamin had a fantastic day with 2 winners, a second and a third. The 9 point haul has seen him jump up to joint second place
Danny had has best season last in 24/25 with 70 winners and he should improve on that number this year His first win was on the ever popular Charlie Uberalles, bringing the house down in the Oakmere Homes Handicap Chase, following up on last year’s success. Despite being challenged after the last fence, Danny drove the local favourite home to please
Danny didn’t have to wait long for next victory, when landing the Beckside Spa Retreat Handicap aboard Judicial Review for local handler Jimmy Moffatt. Many horses could have been called the winner, until the gelding went on close home under a strong ride
Some of loudest cheers were in the opening AW Blake Novices Hurdle, where Bittalemon came home unchallenged ridden by the Queen of Cartmel, Charlotte Jones. The result could be called a long way from home to the delight of Charlotte’s supporters Luke Scott rode his first Cartmel winner on Dickens in the Burlington Stone Novices Handicap Luke has high strike rate from his rides, and this was his first Cartmel winner He has built up a fine relationship with the winning horse and will be riding out his claim soon

CARTMEL TRAINERS’ CHALLENGE
It was all change at the top of the leaderboard and becoming very tight between the front runners. Sharing top spot now are Jimmy Moffatt and Mickey Bowen, just ahead of previous frontrunner Ben Haslam
Cartmel’s own Jimmy Moffatt landed a double to propel him to joint first. Jimmy’s first success was with Bittalemon in the AW Blake Novices Hurdle, and followed up later when Judicial Review was the winner of the Beckside Spa Retreat Handicap He will be looking to regain the title he has won 6 times previously, and who would bet against the title going back to Pit Farm Stables.
It was red letter day for Cian Collins. The young Irish Trainer won the Oakmere Homes Handicap Hurdle with Fiveonefive for an incredible 3rd year in a row. This is a fantastic training performance, and we are sure to see the gelding back here for a repeat attempt next year Cian has not been training long and clearly loves his trips to the Lake District, as earlier he landed the Fleets Farm Equestrian Handicap with Greatness Awaits The winner had ran here just two days before and the quick turnaround proved no issue, holding on by the narrowest of margins under top jockey Danny Gilligan.
The other Oakmere sponsored valuable race also went to a previous winner, when the popular Charlie Uberalles pleased his many followers backing up last year’s win. Penrith’s Dianne Sayer is no stranger to success here, and the Winners Enclosure is great place after a victory with so many happy to join in the celebrations.

HOW TO PLACE A BET
PLACE YOUR BETS....
Betting is quite straightforward and can be fun - for as little as £2 There is no fool proof way of picking a winner; the odds and the racecard can give you a good guide but you can also have as much luck picking your horse by the name or colour of the silks.
BET IN TWO WAYS -
1. Betting with the tote - a quick, easy and friendly service You’ll find tote betting points all around the racecourse and it will give you a better choice of bets with the lower minimum stake of £2. Look at the counters for the tote how to bet guides
HOW TO READ
2. Bookies - these are all in front of the Grandstand and take only two bets TO WIN and EACH-WAY The bookies offer ‘odds’ on all the horses and you are best to shop around for the best odds. These are given in fractions, such as 8/1.

MIGHTY FLEUR confirmed the promise of her bumper exploits when finishing a good third in a mares’ maiden on hurdles debut at Newton Abbot back in April and, returning to action with her yard in good form, she appeals as the type to build on that effort and make a bold bid. Race Description This is a two miles and one furlong handicap hurdle race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 125. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 60 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 170. This particular race is restricted to female jockeys

SALIGO BAY defeated Book of Secrets in a close and controversial finish over C&D last month and from the same terms he is taken to confirm that form in an open-looking handicap Miss Maverick could prove the main threat to both, the sharp nature of this track so well-suited to her front-running style Of the rest, Luttrell Lad is 1lb lower than when landing a similar race in heavy ground here in 2023 and would be of interest if the worst of the forecast rain arrives.

Race Description This is a two miles and six furlongs handicap hurdle race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 130. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have won a race, been placed twice or raced at least three times in order for the handicapper to gauge the level of form shown. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 130 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 125.

GO GO CHICAGO is very low mileage for his age and was better than ever when runner-up over this C&D on soft ground last month. He has solid claims to land a third victory in only 7 starts and may take this at the expense of Wudya who travelled strongly when making a successful stable debut earlier this month and remains of interest stepped up in trip, while Our Sam is capable of winning from this sort of mark and could be dangerous if the ground becomes testing
FIFTH RACE | 4.00
(CLASS 4) (GBB RACE)
for four yrs old and upwards ¨ Total prize fund £8650
Race Description This is a two miles and five furlongs handicap steeple chase for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 120. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 7lb

ABBREVIATIONS
North West Blood Bikes Lancs and Lakes is a registered charity providing an out of hours service to the NHS transporting lifesaving medical supplies to the hospitals within our region. We operate 365 days a year, including on Christmas and New Years Day.
We transport a variety of items from blood, medical samples and equipment to donor breast milk for premature babies. All of this is done completely free of charge and this saving for the NHS helps hospital funding to be better spent on patient care.
We operate entirely voluntarily 100% of the time. All our work today and since we first began in 2012 is funded through donations and fundraising efforts from both personal or corporate sponsors.
We are constantly looking to strengthen our membership as the demands placed upon us to help the NHS continue to grow. There are a variety of roles within the charity which enable us to carry out our life saving work. We are currently recruiting for riders, controllers and fundraisers.

Race Description This three miles, one furlong handicap steeple chase has been designed for four-year-olds and upwards which are rated from 0 to 100. In most National Hunt handicaps, there is a minimum weight of 10st so any horse whose official rating would allocate them less than that still has to shoulder that burden. The horses that fall into this category are said to be racing from ‘out of the handicap’ – usually a distinct disadvantage.

COULDBEAWEAPON clearly isn’t the easiest to win with but there have been more encouraging signs with a tongue tie fitted of late and he could be the answer to this tricky puzzle. C&D winner Pittsburg who quickly switches back to larger obstacles is an obvious threat, whilst confidence behind Restandbethankful returned to this venue would need to be viewed positively
