CARLISLE BELL & CUMBERLAND PLATE RACEDAY WEDNESDAY 25 JUNE 2025 OFFICI AL R ACEC ARD £3.50
Orbaan ridden by Daniel Tudhope winning the Stablemate by AGMA Carlisle Bell 2024 for David O’Meara and J C G Chua.
WELCOME TO
A warm welcome to Carlisle Racecourse for our historic Carlisle Bell & Cumberland Plate Raceday. We have a brilliant afternoon of flat racing ahead of us with seven races featuring a total prize fund of £192,000 for winning connections! The action gets underway at 2.15pm with our feature The AGMA 20 Years of Franklin Ownership Carlisle Bell Handicap at 4.50pm. To keep you entertained throughout the day we have Flat Cap Brass providing the tunes, Tullie House showing the original Bells, top-class Irish Trained National Hunt chase Kemboy will be parading at 2.50pm, Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland selling merchandise and the Penrith Lions Club bucket collecting at the main entrance. History of the Bells; The bells date back as early as 1599, the larger bell has the inscription: ‘The sweftes horse thes bel to tak for mi lade Daker sake’ (The Swiftest horse this bell to take for my lady Dacre’s sake). The second bell, is inscribed: 1599 H.B.M.C. In this case, the initials are believed to stand for: Henry Baines, Mayor of Carlisle. The bells appear to have survived as part of the council’s collection of civic silver, which has allowed them to be preserved until today - hence being the worlds oldest sporting trophy! Witness history today and see who is added to the Carlisle Bell and Cumberland Plate illustrious rolls of honour, previous winners can be reviewed in our Main Entrance dating back to 1960! The Lady Dacre Bell Formally known as the Carlisle Bell Consolation, Class 4 Handicap (66–85) is open to 3YO+ and gives horses eliminated from the historic Carlisle Bell a second chance to shine. Now with an increased prize fund to £20,000, The Lady Dacre Bell cements its place as another key feature on the card! A huge thank you to all of our generous sponsors today for their support; • Stablemate by AGMA • Tattersalls • Irish Stallion Farms EBF In aid of Racing Staff Week I’d also like to give a special thank you to all of those who work in the Racing Industry - without these dedicated, passionate individuals our sport would not be possible! Next up is the highlight of our social calendar; The Caledonia Park Ladies Night fixture on Saturday 5th July. Thank you for supporting us today and I hope to see you again very soon. With best wishes, Helen Willis

TRENDSETTERS GUIDE
Previous race trends (2015-24) can often help provide a short-list of potential winners in the current year’s races. The percentage figure after the race details is the favourite’s ‘strike rate’ in the race for the last ten years. Trainers who have won the race before are also highlighted if they had an entry at the final declaration stage. Drawfacts comments show the past record of winning stalls in the race – stalls divided as low-middle-high.
Wednesday June 25th 2.15 – 5f Maiden (2yo) – Fav 0%: New race in 2019 (run five times before). Three of the five winners to date had finished either 4th/5th LTO and had odds of 15/2 or shorter. FIRST RACE
SHE’S DIVINE is bred to be useful and produced a promising first effort when runner-up at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 15 days ago. Open to improvement, she looks to hold sound claims of going one place better now switched to turf for the first time. PLAY SMARTER Come On Over showed ability without being seen to best effect when fifth at Chester and he’s a danger. Lam Yai and Sailor Batt are another pair to note.
