EXPERT VIEW

A quick way to see a horse’s past performance. These are its recent finishing positions.

How the experts rate the horse’s chances:

Look out for Letters: C D CD BF

= Has won at this course = Has won over this distance = Has won over this distance at this course = Was a beaten favourite

MORE INFORMATION ON THE FORM / P F U R CO B S r

= New racing season = Missed racing season = Was pulled-up and didn’t finish the race = Horse fell = Rider unseated = Horse refused to race = The horse was forced out of a race by a loose horse = Horse was brought down = Horse slipped = The horse ran around a jump or took the wrong course in a flat race = Disqualified

d Bold form figures = performance in all-weather (Flat) or Point-to-Point (Jump) races

2. BHA rating = the higher the number, the better the horse. 3. Timeform view and TFR rating 4. HORSE’S TRAINER & THEIR LOCATION

Look out for the summary of leading course trainers before each race. 5. JOCKEYS Listen out for any jockeys who are having a successful day. OTHER USEFUL DETAILS 6. Owner’s colours worn by the Jockey 7. Saddlecloth number 8. Horse’s name 9. Days since the horse last run 10. Horse’s age 11. Jockey’s weight (stone and lbs) 12. The horse’s breeding – father (sire) and mother (dam) 13. Horse’s owner 14. Horse’s breeder 15. Birthplace of horse (outside GB) 16. Draw – position of the horse in the starting stalls

BETTING EXPLAINED Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. ‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

THE AJA NOVICE FLAT AMATEUR SERIES 2026 Welcome to the third race of the 2026 AJA Novice Flat Amateur Series. This series is open to Amateur Jockeys Association members who have ridden no more than 3 winners under the Rules of Racing at the start of the current Flat season. The series has become an important stepping stone for aspiring amateur riders, providing valuable race-riding experience throughout the summer under the guidance of BHA Jockey Coaches. Today’s race is particularly poignant as we remember Paul Kavanagh who enjoyed his Þrst-ever success under Rules in our race here at Carlisle on 23 August 2023 riding Owens Lad for David Loughnane. He rode his Þrst winner over jumps as a conditional jockey for trainer Enda Bolger back home in Ireland partnering Gimme A Buzz at Clonmel on 6 June 2025, fulÞlling his childhood dream of becoming a competitive jockey. Tragically, he was only 20 years old when he lost his life in a car crash in Co Limerick on Christmas Eve last year. We are honoured that his memory should live on through this series.

A few of these offer potential but GO VINCE GO brings some solid handicap form to the table and is fancied to gain a deserved first win of 2026. Karl Burke’s handicap debutant Town Queen looks ready to take another step forward and rates a big threat, although the David and Nicola Barron-trained duo Here Forever and Tip Foster appeal as likely improvers too and can also play a prominent role.
