Look out for the summary of leading course trainers before each race.
Listen out for any jockeys who are having a successful day.
OTHER USEFUL DETAILS
6. Owner’s colours worn by the Jockey
7. Saddlecloth number
8. Horse’s name
9. Days since the horse last run
10. Horse’s age
11. Jockey’s weight (stone and Ibs)
12. The horse’s breeding – father (sire) and mother (dam)
13. Horse’s owner
14. Horse’s breeder
15. Birthplace of horse (outside GB)
16. Draw – position of the horse in the starting stalls
Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number
Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.
‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.
Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.
Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.
Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.
Duke of Navan was one of the flag bearing northern horses for a few good years and had wins as a novice hurdler before winning the Class 2 Morebattle Hurdle at Kelso in 2012. He won his first Novice Chase here at Carlisle in 2014 & followed it up by winning the Listed Handicap Chase at Ayr during the Scottish National meeting.
Duke of Navan was in training with local trainer Nicky Richards for owners David & Nicky Robinson. He was broken in by Brian Harding who was his jockey until he retired in 2017, then Ryan Day & Danny McMenamin took over.

JKR COBBLER has been thriving of late, completing a hat-trick at Ayr with a comfortable success last month, and he can add to his tally in his current mood. PLAY SMARTER
MUBHIJAH has been narrowly denied in stronger races than this on her last three outings and, having joined a new stable, she’s likely to belatedly open her account at the possible expense of Hills of Gold, who should be back on his game returned to a more suitable distance. Market support for Bustaam would be notable.
The Great British Bonus (GBB) offers multiple bonuses of up to £20,000 per eligible race for British-bred fillies and mares.
Previous race trends (2013-22) can often help provide a short-list of potential winners in the current year’s races. The percentage figure after the race details is the favourite’s ‘strike rate’ in the race. Trainers who have won the race before are also highlighted if they had an entry at the final declaration stage. Drawfacts comments show the past record of winning stalls in the race – stalls divided as low-middle-high
