TRENDSETTERS GUIDE

MONDAY 20TH FEBRUARY Trendsetters Guide Previous race trends (2013-22) can often help provide a shortlist of potential winners in the current year’s races. Hopefully these brief pointers will assist racegoers at Carlisle today. The figure in brackets after the race details is the favourite’s strike rate for the race Trainers who have won the race before and have an intended runner at the final declaration stage are also highlighted.

1.15 2m 1f Maiden Hurdle (67%): New race in 2020 All winners to date were either 1st/2nd favourites with all three ridden by Brian Hughes. Trainer to watch: D McCain (won 2021 & 2022).

Captain Zebo again holds an entry having won the race in 2020 when rated 130 (now rated 126). Trainers to watch: D Skelton (won 2022) & J E Dixon (won 2020 & 2016).

4.25 – 3m 1f Handicap Hurdle (n/a): New race in 2021.

2023 Carlisle Race Facts #1: There are two horses travelling from Ireland today and hopefully they will both run well. However, race goers should be aware that if they had backed all 52 Irish trained runners (in jumps races) here since January 2019, with a £1 win stake, they would be showing a loss of £35.85!

TFRHHIII BHAFORM

TIMEFORM VIEW £18,000 3-y-o. Dam lightly raced on Flat/over jumps, half-sister to French 15f/17f hurdle/chase winner Funny des Cotieres. Betting perhaps the best guide to expectations with this newcomer

RACECOURSE DEBUT

TFRHHHHH BHAFORM 3

TIMEFORM VIEW Fairly useful on Flat (stays 16.5f). Showed an aptitude for hurdling when third over 2m at Catterick on New Year’s Day. Likely to improve and major player for a leading trainer/jockey pairing with a good record in this race

1Jan

TFRHHIII BHAFORM 445

TIMEFORM VIEW Stoutly bred and hasn’t had the speed to land a serious blow in 3 bumpers this season. Probably won’t see the best of him over hurdles until he tackles longer trips than this.

TFRHHIII BHAFORM 0

TIMEFORM VIEW Fair performer on the level in France but never involved on last month’s Wetherby hurdle debut.

2022: GOLD EMERY (FR) 6 11 6 Brian Hughes 5-2 (Donald McCain) 9 ran Running for the first time since Wind Surgery No 3.

DECLARED RUNNERS 11

Stewards Note:

AONE ALLY: Following its run on 22/10/2021 it was reported that the horse hung right handed under pressure.

LINCOLN BURROWS: Following its run on 6/2/2023 it was reported that the horse jumped left handed.

Probable S.P’s: 11-8 Whitehaven (FR), 9-2 Icarat (FR), 11-2 Some Scope (GB), 7-1 Aone Ally (GB), 25-1 Ebendi (IRE), 28-1 Lunar Glow (GB), 33-1 Lincoln Burrows (IRE), Urblereagh (FR), 50-1 Robynson (GB), Diamand de Vindecy (FR), 300-1 Hallwood (FR) PLAY

WHITEHAVEN can build on his Catterick hurdle debut third and provide the Donald McCain/Brian Hughes combination with a third successive win in this race French bumper winner Icarat is a possible threat now hurdling for new trainer Venetia Williams. Some Scope may prove best of the remainder

TIMEFORM VIEW Made a very good start to his chase career last month, winning at Hereford and Huntingdon. Did it easily at latter and a 9lb rise doesn’t look enough to prevent him completing a hat-trick.

DECLARED RUNNERS 11 2022: BAVINGTON BOB (IRE) 7 11 10 Brian Hughes 6-4 (Ann Hamilton) 7 ran Running for the first time since Wind Surgery No 3.

Stewards Note:

MAROWN: Following its run on 2/1/2023 it was reported that the trainer could not explain the poor run.

Probable S.P’s: 4-1 Post Chaise (IRE), 15-2 Lord Roco (GB), Destiny Is All (IRE), 8-1 Tile Tapper (GB), Key Commander (IRE), 9-1 Wowsham (IRE), 14-1 Morning Spirit (IRE), Marown (IRE), 16-1 Enqarde (FR), 20-1 Dog of War (FR), 33-1 Juge Et Parti (FR)

PLAY SMARTER

A competitive handicap but POST CHAISE still rather stands out. He did it easily at Huntingdon 3 weeks ago and can defy the handicapper again and make it 3-3 over fences. Tile Tapper has a good overall chase record so he can be forgiven a lesser run at Kempton last time and heads the dangers along with Lord Roco and Wowsham.

The emergency exits on the grandstand steppings are painted yellow and we would request that you do not stop whilst in this area We would also request that only those that are disabled use the disabled viewing ramp and that parents keep a close eye on all children and prevent them from climbing the running rails and getting on to the actual racecourse We would also like to remind racegoers that the first aid room is located next to the 365 Suite

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials are here to ensure that the racecourse delivers those standards. In addition Carlisle Racecourse employs two veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Racegoers may take photographs for private purposes in the racecourse enclosures. Photography is not permitted in any other area without the permission of the Head of Racing. Under no circumstances may photographs taken on the racecourse be used for publication. Racegoers are reminded that flash photography is not permitted as the flash can alarm horses and may endanger horses, jockeys and public.
