Welcome to Carlisle Racecourse for our Annual Easter Saturday Family Fun Day! Today also marks the last of our jump’s fixtures for the 2021/2022 Season. What a season it’s been. As always, the Colin Parker Memorial race was a highlight for me. It was a sensational renewal with the talented Fiddlerontheroof going on to take the spoils. More recently it was fantastic to finally have a crowd for our Go North Race Day on the 27th March. It was the first time in 3 years that we were able to have a crowd which was only enhanced by all 3 of the finals being won by Northern Trainers. We look forward to growing this Raceday with the support of our Local Trainers and Owners. Today is also a sad day for me as it will be my last jumps fixture at Carlisle before moving to Haydock Park Racecourse. I am an avid racing fan but the jumps will always have my heart and so will Carlisle. A huge thank you to our Sponsors today. -

In memory of
John Robert Wills
This Race is being held in memory of John Robert Wills, OBE DL, a Cumbrian based racehorse breeder who passed away in November. Having taken early retirement from the board of an international company in his early 50s, Mr Wills established a successful stud farm on the banks of Skiddaw at Bassenthwaite, where his notable successes including Class 1 winner Rising Cross. He also kept a number of his own racehorses and for more than 30 years he, and his horses, were a familiar sight at race courses across the North of England and Scotland. A stalwart of the Thoroughbred Breeders Association, he also served on the board of countless Cumbrian companies, public bodies and charities.
