The finals were set up to provide a target for midtier jump horses to be programmed at jumps tracks north of Doncaster. All the chase finals will be held here at Carlisle. This fixture offers a meaningful end-of-season targets for horses trained in the north and provide a showcase for Jump racing in a region that boasts a rich history of success – highlighted further by the names of the races. Each of the finals at Carlisle are worth £35,000.

In April 2015 the family of Peter Phizacklea O.B.E. surprised him on his 78th Birthday by sponsoring a race in memory of his late wife Pauline. The Phizacklea family had such a memorable day that they have continued to sponsor a race each year since, (with the exception of the past two years). Today sees the 6th running of the Pauline Phizacklea Memorial Hurdle in memory of a loving wife, mother & grandmother.

Morgan, from Temple Sowerby, near Penrith, will join 11 other amateur riders from across the UK for the prestigious Macmillan ‘Ride of Their Lives’ charity horse race. Morgan will complete six months of intense jockey training and fundraising before racing thorough-bred horses at York Racecourse on Saturday 11 June. Each amateur jockey is committed to raising at least £4,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, and the race, now in its tenth year, has raised an incredible £1.2 million to support people living with cancer. Each year 25,000 spectators enjoy a day at the races and cheer on these brave riders as they take on the challenge of their lifetime at the oldest and largest event of its kind in the country.
