A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN WEDNESDAY 12TH NOVEMBER 2025

Good Afternoon,

Welcome to Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse for Countryside Day, in partnership with Crest Environmental Services. We’re thrilled to welcome you for what promises to be a fantastic, high-class day of racing and rural celebration.

Racing begins today at 12:30 pm with the Crest Environmental Services 25th Anniversary Novices’ Hurdle. Our feature race comes at 1:30 pm, The Yorton Mares’ Novices’ Chase (Class 1, Listed) for The Richard Aston Trophy, run in memory of our late former chairman, Richard Aston. This prestigious race carries a total prize pot of £40,000. The Weatherbys and Birdie Calendars Handicap Chase follows at 2:00 pm, also boasting £40,000 in prize money. Today’s racing concludes at 4:00 pm with the Greenhous Daf Handicap Hurdle Race.

As the name suggests, today is all about celebrating the countryside Before racing begins, you can enjoy our dog show, where you can enter your four-legged friends for the chance to win fantastic prizes courtesy of Farm and Pet Place. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet the Wynnstay hounds and learn more about trail hunting from our local hunt.

Elsewhere around the course, don’t miss the Vintage Tractor Display, showcasing a beautiful collection of classic tractors, alongside a wonderful local trade stand.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to today’s sponsors, Crest Environmental Services, Weatherbys, Yorton, and Greenhous, for their continued and generous support. We truly value your partnership.

Looking ahead, we’d be delighted to welcome you and your family back for our Breakfast with Santa Raceday on Saturday, 29th November. It promises to be a magical family fixture, with the chance to enjoy breakfast with Santa before another exciting day of racing. We can’t wait to see you there!

HOW TO BET WITH A RACECOURSE BOOKMAKER

WAYS TO BET

STRAIGHT EACH WAY

Win only A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.

STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

· Fewer than 5 runners – all to win

5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

· 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

· Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

AWAY BETTING

Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)

BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE

At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.

COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS

If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall, Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY.

Tel: 01480 499180

In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

15. A guide to the horse’s recent form and star rating. Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

16. Jockey’s Name. If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

BEST SELECTIONS ON THE DAY

Jacks Parrot has won a couple of times over fences but could prove vulnerable to the likes of IN THE AGE now back over timber on his reappearance. Dan Skelton’s charge disappointed on his hurdling bow at Aintree recently, but that effort came following an eight-month absence. Upped further in trip, he could take a marked step forward. Skuna Bay appeals most of the remainder

WIN: IN THE AGE

DANGER: JACKS PARROT

REALLYNTRUTHFULLY came clear to make the perfect start to his chasing career at Fontwell last month and, with the likelihood of much more to come, he can defy a 7lb rise and go in again. That being said, both Margaret’s Legacy and New Order were progressing through the handicap ranks when last in action so they must be given respect Moonshine Man struck the woodwork at Sedgefield latest and is just one more to consider

WIN: REALLYNTRUTHFULLY

DANGER: MARGARET’S LEGACY

JOYEUSE was the highest rated of these over hurdles and, if taking to this new discipline, she could be one to keep on the right side of throughout the season. There should be stiff competition, though, which could primarily come from Wyenot, who faced a tall order in the Mares Champion Hurdle at Punchestown when last seen in May. Queens Gamble and Diva Luna are just as talented and both could be involved, as might the consistent Finest View

WIN: JOYEUSE

DANGER: WYENOT

Le Milos failed to land a blow when fifth on his return at Aintree recently, but he won this in 2022 and should not be underestimated. Even so, THE DOYEN CHIEF looks the way to go. The son of Doyen landed a similar contest at Warwick when last seen and is just 5lb higher Whilst the Alan King yard are in fine order, it would come as no surprise were he to go in again. Richmond Lake is also noted.

WIN: THE DOYEN CHIEF

DANGER: LE MILOS

With little form to go off, only a tentative vote can go to PLAYFUL FOX, who is a half-brother to the smart Unexpected Party and goes for the in-form Dan Skelton team. The son of Hunter’s Light could make an instant impression, although Network Gold might be a real threat Seemingly the choice of Sean Bowen of the Olly Murphy pair, he warrants a market check on his debut. Market confidence behind Sixty’s Rock would make him of interest too.

WIN: PLAYFUL FOX

DANGER: NETWORK GOLD

There was a lot to like about SHABALKO D’HERM’s successful hurdles bow at Uttoxeter last month and there should be more to come. The five-year-old routed the opposition that day, suggesting he should be capable of defying a 7lb penalty Filibustering is sure to find this easier than the juvenile Grade 1 he contested at the Aintree Festival and looks the biggest danger, while market support for useful French Flat recruit Mister Ursus would be interesting.

WIN: SHABALKO D’HERM

An intriguing contest in which preference is afforded to FRESH AS A DAISY, who defeated a pair of subsequent winners on her hurdling bow in May Nicky Henderson’s mare drops in trip for her seasonal return but that shouldn’t be a problem and, with scope for plenty of progress, she could double her tally. Olly Murphy continues to churn out winners and Orderoftheday looks a real threat to the selection, while Spartan Times is also noted.

WIN: FRESH AS A DAISY

ORDEROFTHEDAY

Dan Skelton saddles four of which Honky Tonk Highway could be the stable’s leading hope. Go Dante is likely to be popular too on the back of his second Imperial Cup success when last seen, but a chance can be taken on LAWRENNY Jennie Candlish’s gelding was raised 7lb for winning on his handicap bow at Hexham in March and looks likely to progress over this longer trip.

WIN: LAWRENNY

DANGER: HONKY TONK

Race Summary:

An interesting handicap chase in which it’s difficult to rule out many. There was plenty to like about the way REALLYNTRUTHFULLY went about things on last month’s Fontwell chase debut and he’s selected to give the weight away and make it 2-2 over fences. Ben Pauling has his team in good form so Fine Casting has to be of interest off a good mark based on his exploits when last seen over fences in the 2023/24 season. Moonshine Man and Margaret’s Legacy also make the shortlist 1-2-3:

2024: DO IT AGAIN (FR) 3 11 0

Betting Forecast:

7-2 Playful Fox (FR), 11-2 Network Rgb (GB), 6-1 Network Gold (GB), 13-2 Sixty’s Rock (IRE), 10-1 Milou du Chenet (FR), 12-1 Diamond Jim (IRE), Tails of Gold (GB), 16-1 On Subs (FR), 22-1 Here’s Rodney (GB), Roi des Diamants (FR)

Race Summary:

The market should prove highly informative with very little form to go on but the vote goes to PLAYFUL FOX, who hails from a family full of winners and represents the in-form Dan Skelton yard. The Olly Murphy-trained duo Network Gold (second choice) and Network RGB also appeal on paper and could emerge as the main dangers. Alan King’s Shirocco newcomer Sixty’s Rock completes the shortlist. 1-2-3:

Race Summary:

FILIBUSTERING created a fine impression when going in on his hurdling bow at Kelso and is well worth another chance to confirm that promise having found Aintree’s Anniversary Hurdle too tall an order later last spring. Shabalko D’Herm looked a good prospect when scoring at Uttoxeter and should ensure Harry Derham’s Flat winner doesn’t have things all his own way. Both Diamonds Galore and Brookside La have better days ahead of them too and also need factoring into this most intriguing maiden.

EVACUATION PROCEDURE

18 Bangor Racecourse has enhanced Safety & Security measures to ensure your safety, comfort and enjoyment of the day. However, an incident may occur which is beyond our control and it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency.

We employ professionally trained and experienced stewards who are located predominantly around the course and are identifiable by their uniform.

In the event of a situation that requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards.

The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember:

• Take your belongings with you;

• Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.
