HOW TO BET WITH A
RACECOURSE BOOKMAKER
WAYS TO BET STRAIGHT
Win only
EACH WAY
A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.
STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting. · Fewer than 5 runners – all to win · 5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2 · 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3 · Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3 · Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
AWAY BETTING Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)
BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.
PLACING YOUR BET Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker. You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.
COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race. You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall, Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY. Tel: 01480 499180 In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

TODAY’S TOP TIPS
Jiair Madrik continued his upward trajectory when completing a hat-trick at Uttoxeter 63 days ago and he’s sure to prove popular. However, the seven-year-old scored by only a short head that day and a 4lb higher mark demands more, with COUNTRY PARK taken to capitalise. The Walk In The Park gelding wasn’t disgraced on his latest third at Uttoxeter and reverting to the scene of his last success will suit. Lermoos Legend is a feasible alternative.

ON THE DAY
TOTEEACHWAY: JIAIR MADRIK
CAPTAIN COOL is enjoying a fine debut season over fences, his latest victory at Stratford his fourth since May, and further success could be imminent. A 5lb rise from the assessor looks workable for Jennie Candlish’s charge and he’s taken to fend off Krak. The six-year-old continues to drop in the ratings and a return to this trip may help. Ice In The Veins may land the bronze medal. TOTEWIN: CAPTAIN COOL
TOTEEACHWAY: KRAK
Ride Like A Girl wasn’t given a hard time when runner-up to an easy winner at Uttoxeter 63 days ago and another good account is forecast. However, it’s difficult to get away from HIDDEN FORTUNE, who ran out a ready winner on her hurdling debut at Fontwell in May and a similar performance should make her tough to peg back. Fellow last-time-out winners Provision and Cadillac Ranch complete the shortlist. TOTEWIN: HIDDEN FORTUNE TOTEEACHWAY: RIDE LIKE A GIRL
ZAMOND is taken to continue his good recent run of form here and stretching back out in trip shouldn’t inconvenience the veteran judged on his smooth Sedgefield success this time last year. Lunar Orbit represents leading connections and should be bang there at the business end following a creditable Newton Abbot performance, while Dream Jet is another to take seriously. TOTEWIN: ZAMOND
TOTEEACHWAY: LUNAR ORBIT
PLAYFUL FOX won as his odds suggested at Newton Abbot latest and has more on his plate now back in handicap company. Dan Skelton’s charge is clearly on good terms with himself, though, and can win again while open to more improvement. Syosset brings good Irish form to the table and is an interesting contender, while Roarin’ Success is the pick of Donald McCain’s two runners. TOTEWIN: PLAYFUL FOX
TOTEEACHWAY: SYOSSET
FANE COURT can send his supporters home smiling and makes a good bit of appeal on the back of an agonising defeat at Worcester. Denied by the narrowest of margins that day, he gets in here under a light weight and can gain compensation. Fine Print showed a lot more at Ballinrobe when third and is noted along with Scottish Dancer. TOTEWIN: FANE COURT

Race preview from Weatherbys With the 20th edition of Paul Ferguson’s Jumpers To Follow currently at print stage, the third race on today’s card is the first in a series of races which are kindly sponsored by Weatherbys, on behalf of the popular publication. Eight go to post for the JTF-sponsored novices’ hurdle, including recent winner Cadillac Ranch, who represents sisters Laura and Kelly Morgan. Pulled-up at Worcester on 19th August, the Westerner six-year-old caused a surprise at Sedgefield just 11 days ago and carries a 7lb penalty as a result. Ellie Callwood retains the partnership and claims 7lb, and back in trip, expect her to ride him positively. Dan and Harry Skelton teamed up to take the first two races at Bangor’s fixture last Friday and Hidden Fortune is sure to be popular. A mare by Soldier Of Fortune, she bumped into a potentially smart horse (one who features prominently in this year’s publication, incidentally) on Rules debut at Market Rasen and made a winning start over hurdles at Fontwell in May. Whilst that form hasn’t exactly been franked since, she won with plenty in hand, having been ridden confidently, and she looks to be a leading contender. Expect the five-year-old to once again come from off the pace. Winner of a Huntingdon bumper, Jamie Snowden’s mare Ride Like A Girl boasts plenty of experience and is currently rated 107 after five runs over hurdles. Successful in a handicap in May (also WEATHERBYS RACE PREVIEW
at Huntingdon), she was subsequently well beaten by a rival who is now rated 120, when reverting to novice company. She enjoys good ground so would want the rain to stay away.
Secret Beach is hoping that his Flat speed can be used to gain an advantage. Local trainer Donald McCain saddles two, with Theo Gillard opting to ride Secret Beach (pictured) Only eighth on hurdling debut at Newbury, he then underwent wind surgery and will be fit from a busy summer campaign on the Flat. Runner-up at Chester in July off a mark of 78, he was a winner over 1m4f at Newmarket when trained by Ben Brookhouse and is another who will likely be delivered late, hoping that his Flat speed can be used to his advantage. The Footstepsinthesand gelding is an interesting runner. Provision is another recent winner, who is set to be ridden by a conditional, with Isabelle Ryder retaining the partnership. Having won a maiden together, under similar conditions at Worcester in July, the four-year-old is respected, although an official rating of 105 suggests that he will likely need to improve again in this company. Pretty Darn Quick, Rose Warrior and Evenly complete the octet and also need to show much improved form to feature.

The Boat at Erbistock is an award winning 17th century pub-restaurant that sits on the stunning river Dee, just 10 minutes upstream from Bangor-on-Dee. Dating back to the mid 17th century and probably much earlier this beautiful riverside inn has been welcoming and refreshing locals and passers-by for centuries. Our aim has been to preserve all its charm, nod nostalgically to the past and remember that proper pubs are always about people and atmosphere while gentling evolving into what a 21st century country pub should offer in terms of food, drink and service, as well as facilities. Having a warren of larger and smaller rooms means there is space for all walks of life and a variety of predilections from the dedicated drinkers and diners to walkers, bikers, anglers, shooters, canoeists and of course man’s best friend doggies….of the wellbehaved variety please. We also have a small private dining room that seats about 14 people comfortably that can also be used for meetings and even watching the odd game of rugby or other sports if the timings fit We hope you’ll come and see us and have a good time.
