A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN TUESDAY 27TH OCTOBER 2026 Good afternoon, Welcome to Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse for our Spooktacular Family Day. We have an excellent afternoon in store, with competitive racing alongside a range of Halloween-themed activities for families to enjoy. We have six races on the card today. Racing begins at 1.46pm with the Spooktacular Family Day Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle. Our feature race, the Jodie Standing’s Point-to-Point Recruits Novices’ Hurdle, follows at 2.16pm, and racing concludes at 4.16pm with the Overton Handicap Steeple Chase. In addition to racing, younger racegoers are invited to take part in The Curse of the Bangor-on-Dee Dragon Trail, which leads families around the racecourse through a series of clues and challenges. We also have a Best Creepy Costume Competition and a variety of spooky-themed crafts in the Wynnstay Restaurant. A special thank you goes to today’s sponsors, Weatherbys, Kellyhill Financial Planning and Mount Vines, for their generous support at Bangor-on-Dee. We hope you have a wonderful day with us and if you’ve enjoyed your experience, we’d love to welcome you back for one of our remaining 2026 fixtures. Our next fixture is our Listed Mares’ Trophy Day on Wednesday 11th November. Jonathon Turner, Chairman Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse

HOW TO BET WITH A
RACECOURSE BOOKMAKER
WAYS TO BET STRAIGHT
Win only
EACH WAY
A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.
STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting. · Fewer than 5 runners – all to win · 5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2 · 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3 · Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3 · Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
AWAY BETTING Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)
BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.
PLACING YOUR BET Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker. You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.
COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race. You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall, Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY. Tel: 01480 499180 In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

TODAY’S TOP TIPS
CRYSTAL GLANCE showed the benefit of wind surgery when just denied at Uttoxeter and, with potentially more to come over the trip, this could be a good time to catch the Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero-trained mare. Glance of Glory was a game winner under Freddie Keighley at Fontwell and can feature off just 3lb higher, on the proviso that he copes with stepping up in distance. Aire Spray and Hard Dealt complete the shortlist.
RACE 2
WIN: CRYSTAL GLANCE
RACE 3 RACE 4
EACHWAY: HE’S A TERROR
QUEEN MAEVE was the surprise winner of a premier handicap at Sandown, but that was her handicap debut and gave a strong indication that she could be progressive in races of this nature, especially with this representing a significant drop in class. Hornica has undergone wind surgery since her win at Stratford in April and is an appealing option on her return. Donald McCain won this in 2021 and his Iamyouare also captures the imagination after cosily winning a novice event at Southwell. WIN: QUEEN MAEVE
RACE 5
EACHWAY: GLANCE OF GLORY
RATTLIN HOME and He’s A Terror are notable contenders for Dan Skelton, with the former, a point-to-point winner, shading preference based on jockey bookings and the promise shown when second in a Kempton bumper. His stable companion is well-bred and support in the betting for the son of Walk In The Park would be dangerous to ignore. Godfrey Bouillon, Legend d’Airy and Simonsberg are others to keep an eye on. WIN: RATTLIN HOME
EACHWAY: HORNICA
The previously progressive LAUGHING JOHN had an excuse when a beaten favourite in a handicap hurdle at the Punchestown Festival back in April. The Postponed gelding is 2lb lower for this seasonal return/chasing debut and is a likely improver, but he can only receive a tentative vote because that ought to be the case for the likes of Strong Run, Just Golden and They Want Me too. WIN: LAUGHING JOHN
EACHWAY: STRONG RUN
INEDIT D’AMOUR made a really pleasing return to fences/competitive action at Uttoxeter earlier this month and is fancied to take a step forward to go one place better. Falco des Pins was progressive last season and may be able to pick up from where he left off under suitable conditions, while the four-year-old Masterfield is an interesting contender on his chasing and handicap bow. WIN: INEDIT D’AMOUR
RACE 6
ON THE DAY
EACHWAY: FALCO DES PINS
LIEGE ARDENT won twice over fences when trained in France and Richard Hobson’s new recruit might be worth chancing on his UK debut. A big challenge could emerge from Bataillon, who displayed a solid level of form last term and might still have a bit more to offer. Soldier For Glory makes his handicap/chase bow from a mark of 107 and is another to keep an eye on. WIN: LIEGE ARDENT
EACHWAY: BATAILLON 11

Race preview from Weatherbys It is an absolute pleasure to be sponsoring the Jodie Standing’s Point-To-Point Recruits Novices’ Hurdle at Bangor-On-Dee this afternoon, and it has attracted a competitive field of 11. Dan Skelton’s Rattlin Home arrives with plenty of promise, winner of his sole point and beating Weatherbys Champion Bumper winner The Mourne Rambler in the process. He posted an encouraging runner-up finish in a Kempton bumper on racecourse debut in February under a patient ride, keeping on well, and that form was boosted with the third filling the same spot in an Aintree Grade 2. The five-year-old is an exciting prospect for an in-form stable. The stable also have Jimmy Jazz and He’s A Terror for a three-pronged challenge. The former, the mount of Charlie Todd, was well beaten on hurdles debut at Worcester but should improve for the experience. The Tristan Durrell-ridden He’s A Terror makes his racecourse debut here, a Walk In The Park four-year-old whose dam in an unraced sister to Grade 1 winner Slate House.
Rattling Home is an exciting prospect for an in-form stable. Ben Pauling’s Legend d’Airy is a half-brother to four-time winner Issar D’Airy and displayed promise when runner-up on racecourse debut in a Hereford bumper. He couldn’t WEATHERBYS RACE PREVIEW 18
quite match that form to close the campaign at Warwick but should prove more effective in this sphere now over obstacles. Affinisea gelding Back To Sea represents Tom Ellis and makes his first start under rules after winning his third start in Irish points by eight lengths at Ballingarry. Jack Andrews takes the ride aboard the five-yearold. Philip Hobbs & Johnson White are represented by Sittin Ona Fortune, his dam the winner of a Punchestown bumper. The five-year-old won at the third time of asking between the flags, scoring in a maiden at Quakerstown back in April. Stablemate On Subs will be ridden by Ellis Collier on what is the four-year-old’s third start over hurdles. Donald McCain’s Godfrey Bouillon perhaps sets the standard of those with hurdles form, having finished runner-up at Kelso on hurdles bow to one now rated 113. That was last November, however, and he does arrive here off a lengthy break. Christian Williams’ Simonsberg ran better than the beaten distance suggests when third on his hurdles debut earlier this month at Chepstow and can improve on that effort with experience and fitness now on side. Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero have two runners in the field, with Toby Wynne taking the ride aboard debutant Get Busy Jumping, a son of Postponed. Jack Tudor gets the leg up on Gentlewave gelding Emral Bridge, a four-year-old who finished fifth in a bumper here at the track in April.

The Boat at Erbistock is an award winning 17th century pub-restaurant that sits on the stunning river Dee, just 10 minutes upstream from Bangor-on-Dee. Dating back to the mid 17th century and probably much earlier this beautiful riverside inn has been welcoming and refreshing locals and passers-by for centuries. Our aim has been to preserve all its charm, nod nostalgically to the past and remember that proper pubs are always about people and atmosphere while gentling evolving into what a 21st century country pub should offer in terms of food, drink and service, as well as facilities. Having a warren of larger and smaller rooms means there is space for all walks of life and a variety of predilections from the dedicated drinkers and diners to walkers, bikers, anglers, shooters, canoeists and of course man’s best friend doggies….of the wellbehaved variety please. We also have a small private dining room that seats about 14 people comfortably that can also be used for meetings and even watching the odd game of rugby or other sports if the timings fit We hope you’ll come and see us and have a good time.

The Hidden Welsh Vineyard Mount Vines is a Welsh vineyard set on a hillside overlooking the Dee Valley and the picturesque village of Bangor Isycoed (Bangor-on-Dee), famous for its racecourse. This delightful location is the home of retirees David and Linda Williams, who planted their first vines as a hobby in 2013 and have since established a small vineyard business. Benefitting from the protection of the Welsh Mountains, these South and West facing slopes produce harvests of white Solaris and red Rondo grapes.
