HOW TO BET WITH A RACECOURSE BOOKMAKER

WAYS TO BET

STRAIGHT EACH WAY

Win only A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.

STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

· Fewer than 5 runners – all to win

5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

· 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

· Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

AWAY BETTING

Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)

BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE

At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.

COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS

If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall, Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY.

Tel: 01480 499180

In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

15. A guide to the horse’s recent form and star rating. Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

16. Jockey’s Name. If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

5.10 KING GRIS has moved from D P Murphy to P Morris; 6.10 POUR THE WINE has moved from P Fahey to J Candlish; 7.10 WASPY has moved from D McCain to F O’Brien.

BEST SELECTIONS ON THE DAY

I’m A Lumberjack sets the standard for others to aim at with a rating of 120, but his latest third at Uttoxeter was an underwhelming effort With that in mind, RONNIES RULES gets the vote. Dan Skelton’s six-year-old justified favouritism in good style at Ffos Las last week and may have more to offer on only his fourth start over hurdles. Bear Market completes the shortlist

WIN: RONNIES RULES

DANGER: I’M A LUMBERJACK

GRAIN D’OUDAIRIES finished third in a much warmer event at Carlisle last month and the assessor may have been kind to only put him up 1lb. The nine-year-old remains unexposed over this distance and if running at a similar level, he will prove tough to stop. Hunter Legend failed to land the hat-trick when only fifth at Uttoxeter in February, but this should be easier and he has to be respected. Of the remainder, Clonakilty makes the most appeal.

WIN: GRAIN D’OUDAIRIES

3

DANGER: HUNTER LEGEND

Point-to-point winner Jomig Des Bois produced a better effort to finish second over an extended 2m3f here last month and is an interesting contender on his handicap debut, taking a step up in trip. However, CHAMPETRE finished third in a stronger event at Warwick when last seen and may appreciate this slight drop in distance. The seven-year-old races off a 1lb lower rating and looks the one to beat Fresh Speculation is another to note.

WIN: CHAMPETRE

DANGER: JOMIG DES BOIS

An impressive winner on his chase debut here over shorter last month, BIG CITY ROLLER looks well worth another go over further off an 8lb higher mark. As long as the seven-year-old handles this sounder surface, he can go in again at the main expense of Konfusion, who could not have won any easier at Uttoxeter last month, for which he has been raised a hefty 12lb. An unlucky first-fence departure in the Scottish Grand National when fancied, Sail Away is a player, along with comfortable Sandown scorer Frenchy Du Large.

WIN: BIG CITY ROLLER

DANGER: KONFUSION

A determined winner on his first run after wind surgery at Taunton last time out, DANCE AND GLANCE could be well treated off a mark of 115 on his handicap debut and can follow up for in-form connections. On a hat-trick in this sphere after a comfortable success over C&D earlier this month, Fandabidozi must enter calculations along with Crystal Glance, who returned to winning ways in taking fashion at Uttoxeter last month.

WIN: DANCE AND GLANCE

DANGER: FANDABIDOZI

Two from three over C&D with a further second placed effort, REGAL AND ROYAL has been a model of consistency since going handicapping last May Jennie Candlish’s charge bumped into a progressive rival in Luminaries, who runs in the other division of this contest (8:10), when filling the runner-up spot at Newcastle last month and a 2lb rise looks fair on that evidence. The son of Doctor Dino is fancied to go one place better, although Chesh, who sports a first-time tongue-tie for this handicap bow, could provide a stern challenge. Mokoro is also noted.

WIN: REGAL AND ROYAL

DANGER: CHESH

LUMINARIES defeated Regal And Royal, who has a strong chance in the other division of this contest (7:40), at Newcastle to complete his hat-trick last time out. Despite a 9lb higher mark, Ewan Whillans’ gelding might not be done just yet Fat Harry wasn’t the most fluent at Uttoxeter recently so it was to his credit that he was able to keep on for second. A return to further should suit and he is feared, while market support for handicap debutant Alshadhian would be noteworthy

WIN: LUMINARIES

DANGER: FAT HARRY

EVACUATION PROCEDURE

18 Bangor Racecourse has enhanced Safety & Security measures to ensure your safety, comfort and enjoyment of the day. However, an incident may occur which is beyond our control and it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency.

We employ professionally trained and experienced stewards who are located predominantly around the course and are identifiable by their uniform.

In the event of a situation that requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards.

The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember:

• Take your belongings with you;

• Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.
