A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

SATURDAY 21ST JUNE 2025

Good afternoon,

Welcome to Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse for our most glamourous fixture of the year, Ladies Day.

Today is a chance for racegoers to dress up and enjoy a great day of thrilling jumps racing. The competition won’t just be on the track today, with all guests invited to take part in our best dressed competition for the chance to win some fantastic prizes.

We have a full card of seven races today, plus two pony races to start the day. Pony racing begins at 2.55pm with the second pony race commencing at 3.15pm. Our most valuable race comes at the start of the card with the Rachel Jones Memorial Novices’ Handicap Steeple Chase, at 3.55pm. Runners and riders compete for a total prize pot of £15,000. The day draws to a close at 7.30pm with the Summer Social On Friday 4th July Open National Hunt Flat Race.

I’d like to say a special thanks to today’s sponsors, Golden Sunset Holidays, Forrest Recruitment and Wrexham Lager All here at Bangor-on-Dee are grateful for your support.

We look forward to welcoming you back racing here on Friday 4th July for our Summer Social Night. We hope you’ll join us again then.

HOW TO BET WITH A RACECOURSE BOOKMAKER

WAYS TO BET

STRAIGHT EACH WAY

Win only A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.

STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

· Fewer than 5 runners – all to win

5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

· 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

· Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

AWAY BETTING

Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)

BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE

At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.

COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS

If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall, Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY.

Tel: 01480 499180

In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

15. A guide to the horse’s recent form and star rating. Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

16. Jockey’s Name. If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

NOTE:

3

Collingham joined Jake Coulson’s yard after winning a claimer over hurdles at Fakenham last month and is respected, despite the runner-up doing little to boost the form in two subsequent starts. However, TACTICAL AFFAIR’s 10-length romp at Stratford carries most substance and he gets a confident vote. The hat-trick seeking Barranco was also a facile winner on his latest start but an 18lb higher rating looks a harsh assessment

TOTEWIN: TACTICAL AFFAIR

TOTEEACHWAY: COLLINGHAM

OBSESSEDWITHYOU was a ready winner over two miles at Ffos Las last month and could be tough to reel in if the step back up in distance can be taken in her stride. Calli Black also rates a serious player based on an improved round of jumping when she scored at Worcester a fortnight ago. C&D winner Fancy Stuff and Lost Connections can also figure with their stamina not in question.

TOTEWIN: OBSESSEDWITHYOU

TOTEEACHWAY: CALLI BLACK

LEADING FORCE fell for the first time under Rules when he seemingly failed to adapt to racing in a visor at Worcester a fortnight ago. He can atone for that uncharacteristic mishap, with cheekpieces reemployed instead. A ready winner in the same headgear at Uttoxeter on his penultimate start, the eight-year-old should also benefit from Sean Bowen being back in the saddle. Old Page can figure if he transfers his Sedgefield form to this venue, while Cap Du Nord appeals off a competitive mark.

TOTEWIN: LEADING FORCE

TOTEEACHWAY: OLD PAGE

SOLENT GATEWAY got off the mark in this sphere over track and trip earlier in the month and sets the standard with an official rating of 112. It would be no surprise to see him defy his 7lb penalty, with the main threat possibly One Cool Dreamer Alan King’s four-year-old could only manage fourth on his first outing over timber at Warwick, but he should take a step forward to have a say Granny B looks best of the rest

TOTEWIN: SOLENT GATEWAY

TOTEEACHWAY: ONE COOL DREAMER

Getalead ran in snatches when second over 2m5f at Warwick last month and should remain competitive off an unchanged mark, but the drop in trip is a concern. With that in mind, BELLBIRD gets the vote. Donald McCain’s mare occupied the runner-up berth in a warmer event at Cartmel and the assessor may have been generous to only put her up 1lb. Dog Fox can fight it out for the minor honours.

TOTEWIN: BELLBIRD

TOTEEACHWAY: GETALEAD

SPARTAN WARRIOR opened his account over timber with a determined victory at Kelso. The four-year-old has plenty of scope for further improvement in this code and a 2lb rise may not be enough to anchor him. Land Girl’s Luck looked beaten when left in the lead at Southwell, although she still finished well clear of the rest and another good effort looks likely Chillhi should be noted reverting to hurdles on only his second start for James Owen’s yard.

TOTEWIN: SPARTAN WARRIOR

TOTEEACHWAY: LAND GIRL’S LUCK

The winner of a race on the level between the flags in April, LORD CAUVELLIERE followed that with a successful debut under Rules at Stratford on his first start for Sheila Lewis. He can defy a penalty with the prospect of more to come. Flying Pimpernel showed ability when second at Fontwell on her introduction and she could have a say in the outcome, while Knolton Park is related to a bumper winner and is a newcomer to note with Sean Bowen on board.

TOTEWIN: LORD CAUVELLIERE

Rachel sadly passed away in 2015 after bravely battling cancer, which she did until the very end with dignity.

Rachel left two amazing sons, Matthew and Scott, who she was so proud of.

Rachels journey started in Delph, Lancashire and then she moved to Anglesey where she started working with horses at John Hewitt’s riding stables, progressing to riding and hunting the point to point racehorses, before becoming assistant trainer at Richard Hewitt’s licensed yard.

Her youngest son Scott Hewitt will be presenting the trophy today. Her family, including Mother Margaret, Brother Martin and many friends were so proud of her.

SPECIAL DRAGON found herself less-than-ideally placed when fifth behind re-opposing Calli Black in a handicap chase at Uttoxeter 2 weeks ago and, having previously shaped like she was building up to something, she could be worth siding with to turn the tables on these revised terms. Obsessedwithyou was seen to good effect when opening her chase account at Ffos Las yet remains sufficiently lightly raced in this sphere to think that won’t prove her limit

Race Summary:

Though it’s unlikely that LEADING FORCE would’ve followed-up his Uttoxeter success had he stayed on all fours at Worcester a fortnight ago, the 8-y-o remains on a workable mark and is taken to bounce back now reunited with Sean Bowen and with cheekpieces refitted. Heroique de Maulde is second choice ahead of the hat-trick seeking Old Page.
