A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

SATURDAY 12TH APRIL 2025

Good afternoon,

Welcome to Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse for Wrexham Day.

Today is all about Wrexham – and what better place to celebrate than here at the only racecourse in North Wales. Wrexham is built on community, spirit and pride, and we’re delighted to bring that energy to the heart of today’s racing.

We’ve got a fantastic day of racing ahead, with seven exciting races on the card. The action kicks off at 1.35pm with The Mayor of Wrexham Novices’ Hurdle Race, and builds towards our feature at 3.55pm, The Weatherbys nhstallions.co.uk Handicap Steeple Chase, which boasts a prize fund of £12,000 We round off the afternoon at 5.09pm with The This Is Wrexham ‘Junior’ National Hunt Flat Race.

A special thank you goes to our brilliant sponsors; Stamford Agri, Penthraeth Subaru, Thorncliffe, Weatherbys, Unicorn Travel, and This is Wrexham. Your support helps make this day possible and we’re proud to celebrate alongside so many fantastic local businesses and partners.

Please also take a moment on exit to support our chosen charity for the day – Eisteddfod – a cornerstone of Welsh culture and community

We hope you have a wonderful day with us. If you’ve enjoyed the occasion, do join us again soon – there’s plenty more racing and fun still to come this season!

HOW TO BET WITH A RACECOURSE BOOKMAKER

WAYS TO BET

STRAIGHT EACH WAY

Win only A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.

STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

· Fewer than 5 runners – all to win

5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

· 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

· Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

AWAY BETTING

Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)

BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE

At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.

COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS

If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall, Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY.

Tel: 01480 499180

In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

15. A guide to the horse’s recent form and star rating. Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

16. Jockey’s Name. If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

BEST SELECTIONS ON THE DAY

SIGN AGAIN showed progressive form over hurdles at the end of last year culminating with a convincing success over 2m4f at Sedgefield. Charlie Longsdon’s charge is open to further improvement and can defy a double penalty. Malicash is another on the upgrade, having won both starts since undergoing a wind operation. He can feature once again, while the maiden hurdle winner Ki Woo is preferred of the rest

WIN: SIGN AGAIN

DANGER: MALICASH

ROCK ON RITA has been hard to keep right, but got her act together over fences at Fakenham last month. She won with plenty left in the tank and left the impression this extra test of stamina would also suit Higgs has eased in the weights and bounced back to form with a respectable second at Ffos Las last week, while Sweet Street is potentially well treated in this lower grade. WIN: ROCK

DANGER: HIGGS

DON RAFAEL has faced tougher assignments than this since scoring at Hereford in November Outpaced turning for home over 2m at Warwick last time, Martin Keighley’s charge will relish the return to this longer trip. Lune De La Mer showed signs of a resurgence when sent off favourite at Haydock and drops in class with solid claims, while Tchoupinminzac should be noted with improvement likely on his handicap debut

WIN: DON RAFAEL

DANGER: LUNE DE LA MER

FANDABIDOZI is fit from the Flat and reverts to hurdles with a big chance of adding to his tally off just 2lb higher than when he was successful at Stratford last May. King Ulanda, who won a conditional riders’ event under this jockey on his penultimate start, is also going the right way and rates a key player following another respectable effort at Warwick. Winchmore Hill and Little Dipper complete the shortlist

WIN: FANDABIDOZI

DANGER: KING ULANDA

YEALAND, who enjoyed a walkover at Haydock before his third-placed finish at Carlisle, has held his form well this season and looks well worth another try with first-time cheekpieces being a potential source of improvement. Do Your Job tends to go well for Lily Pinchin and commands respect on the back of a successful spin at Wetherby The hat-trick seeking Too Cool Forshrule is also noted.

WIN: YEALAND

DANGER: DO YOUR JOB

DWIGHT K SCHRUTE enjoyed his finest day at the office so far when on target over 2m3f at Fontwell last month. He enters handicaps with untapped potential and returning to further ought to be in his favour too. Kuzco (winner) defeated Izzy’s Grey (third) over C&D three weeks ago and both are unlikely to be far away, along with Serious Chat, who shaped with promise at Market Rasen last time.

WIN: DWIGHT K SCHRUTE

DANGER: KUZCO

PORTETTA faced a stiff task when pitched into a Listed event at Limerick on her racecourse debut and although the Le Havre filly struggled that day, it would come as no surprise were she to progress in these calmer waters. Hay Max fetched 75,000 pounds as a three-year-old and is worth a market check, while Pon De Replay, who has bumper winners in her pedigree, should not be overlooked.

Race Summary:

A cracking renewal that has a very open look to it. TIME FOR SANDALS doesn’t represent a powerhouse stable but there’s a lot to like about her physically and the way in which she found a jolt of progress in each of her 3 juvenile starts suggests there’s more to come from her as a 3-y-o. Mountain Breeze is feared most on the back of a productive spell in Meydan, with Simmering already a Group 2 winner and 7f looks her ideal trip
