STRAIGHT EACH WAY
Win only A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.
In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.
· Fewer than 5 runners – all to win
5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2
· 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3
Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3
· Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)
At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.
Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.
If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall, Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY.
Tel: 01480 499180
In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

15. A guide to the horse’s recent form and star rating. Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
16. Jockey’s Name. If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

A left-handed track of approximately one mile three furlongs in circumference. There are nine relatively easy fences per circuit and a run-in of 325 yards. Three tight turns make the course somewhat sharp in nature.

RODNEY is unbeaten in two starts over the smaller obstacles since switching to the Kerry Lee yard and now makes his chasing bow If the six-year-old can continue his progression over fences, he will prove hard to beat Sleeping Satellite showed improvement in a first-time tongue-tie to score at Stratford earlier this month and has to be respected. Last-time-out Southwell scorer Neigh Botha is another to consider
TOTEWIN: RODNEY
TOTEEACHWAY: SLEEPING SATELLITE
Moonshine Man only found one too good on his chase debut at Sedgefield last month and is likely to have more to offer, but the vote goes to BOWENSPARK. Henry Daly’s seven-year-old was last seen filling the runner-up spot over hurdles at Warwick and might prove a different proposition in this sphere. Off a workable rating, he could make a winning return to action. Sunday Soldier isn’t ruled out either
TOTEWIN: BOWENSPARK
TOTEEACHWAY: MOONSHINE MAN
Betterforeveryone struck over 4m at Hexham in March and only has a 3lb higher rating to contend with, but the sizeable drop in trip might open the door for BRIDGET MARY. Rebecca Curtis’ mare won by 10 lengths over C&D in April and even a 8lb rise looks on the lenient side. I See The Sea is the pick of the remainder
TOTEWIN: BRIDGET MARY
TOTEEACHWAY: BETTERFOREVERYONE
Having got the better of a subsequent winner when making all at Warwick last month, Mary warrants respect in her bid to complete a double. However, the six-year-old may not be gifted such an easy lead in these deeper waters, with stable debutant ROSALYS making most appeal. The daughter of Workforce proved progressive when racing in Ireland last year and this drop in distance looks ideal. Newbury EBF Mares’ winner Siog Geal is feared most, ahead of the downgraded Rockola Vogue.
TOTEWIN: ROSALYS TOTEEACHWAY: SIOG GEAL
SPECTACULARSUNRISE should have learned plenty from his third-placed hurdle bow at Perth last month and this looks a suitable opportunity for him to open his account in this discipline. Nigel & Willy Twiston-Davies have their string in good order and their inmate may face the most resistance from consistent bumper performer Douglas Hyde. The five-year-old boasts a point-to-point victory and should take to timber Eastern Shores and Animato are others to consider
Kiss My Face supplemented a return to form at Warwick when securing a fourth victory over hurdles at Wetherby recently and is dangerous to discount in his current mood. However, a 6lb higher mark and rise in class does demand more from the eight-year-old, with the progressive Court In A Storm and IDEFIX DE CIERGUES potentially being better treated. The latter reappeared with a good third at Chepstow and may offer more value than Kim Bailey & Mat Nicholls’ charge, who is chasing a four-timer

I am delighted to be on course, at one of my local tracks, for race two on this afternoon’s six-race card, the Jumpers To Follow-sponsored Novices’ Handicap Chase, a 0-120 contestinwhich14horsesgotopost.
Given that he is the only horse to feature in this year’s publication, Aboutdamntime would be a fitting winner. Representing the local trainingduoofOliverGreenall&Josh Guerriero, who took last year’s race withBillytherealbigred,thesix-yearold looked a bright prospect when winningonhurdlesdebutatCarlisle last November. Although he failed to build on that, his Irish Points form reads well and he can be expected to improve for the switch to fences, with him sporting first-time cheekpieces and a tongue-tie. With the Malpas stable among the winners over the weekend, he can go well underCraigNichol.
The weights are headed by Henry Daly’s Bowenspark, who was a smart bumper performer who won on hurdles debut in November 2023. He didn’t win again in eight subsequent runs over hurdles but ran well on his reappearance last year and again on his final start in the spring. He is another debutant to note (also wears cheek-pieces for the first time), although the Daly stablehasn’treallyclickedintogear.
Nicky Henderson’s Tradecraft has had a wind operation since being pulled-up at Punchestown, having earlier won at Sandown. The son of Blue Bresil remains lightly-raced and has gone well on the back of a breakinthepast.
On the same mark (119), Saracen Beau represents Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore, the pair successful with the strong stayer, Conman John, at Cheltenham on Saturday (also had a winner at Kelso). This six-year-old is another who was lightly-raced over hurdles, although being a half-brother to Dreamsoftheatre, the grey might just improve as he goes up in distanceastheseasongoeson.
Of those with chasing experience, Henrietta Knight’s Moonshine Man, who actually carries the same colours as Conman John, shaped wellondebutatSedgefieldamonth ago, whilst Quick Sharpener won over today’s course-and-distance back in April. He struggled a month later at Hexham, but could well bounce back as he returns to the sceneofhisbestperformance.
