A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN FRIDAY 26TH JUNE 2026
Good evening, welcome to Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse for Wrexham Evening.
Today is all about Wrexham, and what better place to celebrate than here at the only racecourse in North Wales. Wrexham is built on community, spirit and pride, and we’re delighted to bring that energy to the heart of this evening’s racing.
We’ve got a fantastic evening of racing ahead, with six exciting races on the card. The action kicks off at 5.58pm with the Pentraeth Subaru Handicap Steeple Chase The feature race of the evening is the Bangor-on-Dee Handicap Hurdle Race at 7.34pm. Racing draws to a close at 8.53pm with the Tom Jones at Chester Conditional Jockey’s Handicap Hurdle Race.
A special thank you goes to our brilliant sponsors; Pentraeth Subaru, Wrexham Lager and Golden Sunset Holidays. Your support helps make this day possible and we’re proud to celebrate alongside so many fantastic local businesses and partners.
We hope you have a wonderful evening with us. If you’ve enjoyed the occasion, do join us again after our short summer break. We next race on Friday 4th September for the North Wales Business Day.

HOW TO BET WITH A RACECOURSE BOOKMAKER
WAYS TO BET
STRAIGHT EACH WAY
Win only A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.
STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING
In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.
· Fewer than 5 runners – all to win
5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2
· 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3
Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3
· Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
AWAY BETTING
Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)
BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE
At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.
PLACING YOUR BET
Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.
COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS
If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall, Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY.
Tel: 01480 499180
In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

15. A guide to the horse’s recent form and star rating. Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
16. Jockey’s Name. If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

BEST SELECTIONS ON THE DAY
Although somewhat flattered by the winning margin when left clear at the last over C&D, there should be more to come from LE GENTLEMAN. That was only his third outing for current connections and a 7lb higher mark looks surmountable. Stablemate My Noble Lord scored over track and trip on his penultimate outing and shouldn’t be underestimated reverting to this class, although a bigger threat may emerge from Worcester fourth Country Park, who is open to improvement in this discipline.
TOTEWIN: LE GENTLEMAN
TOTEEACHWAY: COUNTRY PARK
Having scored between the flags on her most recent outing, Glenmalure Flyer enters calculations on her stable bow for Dan Skelton. The eight-year-old must be feared if strong in the betting, but it could be worth chancing SLANEY OPERA.
Nick Scholfield’s charge has strong claims on the pick of his form and a wind procedure since finishing third at Huntingdon could prove just the ticket Dazzlelikethis is a feasible alternative.
TOTEWIN: SLANEY OPERA
A dual point-to-point winner, COLEGRAM looked to find 2m1f on the sharp side when third on her Rules bow at Newton Abbot. This step up in trip is likely to help the daughter of Buck’s Boum and her experience could prove decisive against hurdling debutant Mirabello. Jamie Snowden’s mare arrives on the back of a second-placed effort in a bumper at Newton Abbot and she should make her mark in this discipline. Little Twig is the pick of the remainder.
TOTEWIN: COLEGRAM
TOTEEACHWAY: MIRABELLO
IL VA DE SOI arrives on the back of two Warwick successes and is still competitively treated off 6lb higher than for the latest of those wins. Donald McCain’s gelding looks well placed to land the hat-trick, but this is no penalty kick because Crystal Glance won emphatically over C&D and even veteran Supreme Yeats went in search of a three-timer of his own at Hexham last time. Summergrounds will need to raise his game.
TOTEWIN: IL VA DE
Evening Tess was given a fine ride from the front by Harry Skelton at Fontwell and is respected given the yard’s current form, but PRETTYLADY could still be well ahead of the handicapper The Grey Gatsby filly made a winning handicap bow at Stratford before easing to further success at Southwell and a subsequent 8lb rise does not look too harsh. Centurion’s Sister heads the remainder
TOTEWIN: PRETTYLADY
TOTEEACHWAY: EVENING TESS
Golden Glance had been in the doldrums for a while before bouncing back to form at Southwell and she might still be capable of a bit better, but that could be said about ATHENA’S DREAM too. Harriet Dickin’s charge finished second at Ludlow last month, but might have gone even closer had she not made a bad mistake at the last She’s open to real improvement, especially at this level, and is taken to go one place better Rock Hurley could also be involved.

Rachel Jones
1968-2015

Rachel sadly passed away in 2015 after bravely battling cancer, which she did until the very end with dignity.
Rachel left two amazing sons, Matthew and Scott, who she was so proud of.
Rachels journey started in Delph, Lancashire and then she moved to Anglesey where she started working with horses at John Hewitt’s riding stables, progressing to riding and hunting the point to point racehorses, before becoming assistant trainer at Richard Hewitt’s licensed yard.
Her youngest son Scott Hewitt will be presenting the trophy today. Her family, including Mother Margaret, Brother Martin and many friends were so proud of her.

EVACUATION PROCEDURE
18 Bangor Racecourse has enhanced Safety & Security measures to ensure your safety, comfort and enjoyment of the day. However, an incident may occur which is beyond our control and it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency.
We employ professionally trained and experienced stewards who are located predominantly around the course and are identifiable by their uniform.
In the event of a situation that requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards.
The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember:
• Take your belongings with you;
• Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.
