HOW TO BET WITH A RACECOURSE BOOKMAKER

WAYS TO BET

STRAIGHT EACH WAY

Win only A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.

STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

· Fewer than 5 runners – all to win

5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

· 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

· Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

AWAY BETTING

Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)

BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE

At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.

COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS

If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall, Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY.

Tel: 01480 499180

In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

15. A guide to the horse’s recent form and star rating. Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

16. Jockey’s Name. If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

BEST SELECTIONS ON THE DAY

MILAN AC posted his best effort to date when runner-up at Ffos Las in May and he enters handicaps off what looks a workable mark. The six-year-old should appreciate this stiffer test of stamina and a breakthrough victory could be on the cards. The progressive It’s Maisy scored four times over hurdles last season and she isn’t taken lightly on her return to action. Stable debutant Schalke lurks on an attractive mark and market support would be interesting

WIN: MILAN AC

EACHWAY: IT’S MAISY

GAMESTERS GUY had little difficulty when making all under a penalty at Carlisle last season. The dual bumper winner makes plenty of appeal now tackling hurdles for the first time and he ticks plenty of the right boxes. Penalised winners Navajo Indy and Not Now Nathaniel should put their experience in this discipline to good use, with the former expected to serve the most resistance to the selection after gaining a breakthrough victory at Wincanton in April.

WIN: GAMESTERS GUY

EACHWAY: NAVAJO INDY

7

Donald McCain’s runners always warrant close inspection given his fine strike-rate at this venue and another bold bid is forecast from COULD BE TROUBLE. The nine-year-old made all the running at Hexham earlier this month and a 4lb rise looks on the lenient side. Little Miss Dante was highly tried outside of handicap company last season and better is expected on her handicap bow Mermaids Cave should appreciate this longer distance and isn’t easily dismissed either.

WIN: COULD BE TROUBLE

EACHWAY: LITTLE MISS DANTE

Those with no chasing experience are certain to learn plenty, but it might pay to side with ULTRA BEAT. The Henry Daly-trained gelding showed only moderate form over timber, but the switch to fences along with the step up to 3m can unlock improvement within the son of Milan. Exmoor Forest has had six starts over the larger obstacles, including a C&D win from 3lb lower He can put that knowledge to good use though and it would come as no surprise were he to mount a stern challenge. Others to note include On The Platform and Chancycourt

WIN: ULTRA BEAT

EACHWAY: EXMOOR FOREST

Lady Balko found rapid improvement over hurdles last season and although she appeared to be in the grip of the handicapper when last seen, a switch to fences could see the previous point winner resume her progress. Connections have wasted no time in sending Baltray, second over hurdles at Fontwell in May, over the larger obstacles for the first time. Emma Lavelle’s gelding is sure to appreciate the switch and he is considered along with recent Sedgefield winner I’m Ravenous. It is IRON D’EX, a winner on his return/chasing debut at Ludlow, that shades preference, though, and he can defy a 3lb rise with improvement likely

WIN: IRON D’EX

EACHWAY: LADY BALKO

LIBOR LAD ran with enthusiasm when second on his chasing debut at Stratford 22 days ago and, off just 2lb higher, he could go one better with that experience to draw upon. Dromlac Jury got off the mark on her most recent start over hurdles and can also figure if she transfers a similar level of ability now she starts out over to this sphere. Orbys River and Mutual Respect are others to monitor closely in the betting.

WIN: LIBOR LAD

EACHWAY: DROMLAC JURY

DOUGLAS HYDE was a comfortable winner on his solitary start in a point-to-point and, having subsequently been snapped up for 85,000 pounds at the Aintree sales in April, there is a lot to like now the four-year-old starts out under Rules under the tutelage of Rebecca Curtis. Sign Again holds a similar profile and appeals given his dam is an unraced half-sister to the high-class Put The Kettle On among others. It’s Top also boasts a notable NH pedigree and warrants a second look.

WIN: DOUGLAS HYDE

TIMEFORM VIEW Benefitted from a pace collapse when scoring at Wetherby (24.2f, heavy) last November and almost followed up at Newcastle next time. Icare Grandchamp is another who won over fences when last seen, scoring on his third attempt over the larger obstacles in a Newton Abbot handicapbackinJune.Thatformhas beenwelladvertisedwiththesecond and fourth in the winners’ enclosure since and Gary and Josh Moore’s six-year-oldhasanexperienceedge overthisfield.

After shedding his maiden tag over hurdles on return at Sedgefield at thestartofthemonth,I’mRavenous makes his chase debut for Ben Paulingherefromapotentiallylenient opening mark of 113. The Spanish Moon gelding was purchased out of the Point-to-Point sphere following a victory at Chaddesley Corbett and hailsfromthefamilyofthehigh-class Cilaos Emery. He should have plenty tooffernowswitchedtofences.

David Pipe’s Lady Balko was also a

point winner and proved extremely progressive in handicap hurdles last season at the turn of the year, landing a quickfire hattrick between February and March. She is now a full 29lbs higher than when starting her winning run of form but there is goodreasontobelieveshecangoon improvingoverfencesthisterm.

Billytherealbigred appears the type who has plenty of scope for improvement over fences.

Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero have a terrific record here at the track and their four-year-old Billytherealbigred benefits from the handy weight-for-age allowance here. He was a heavy faller when travelling well on his final start at Ayr last season but had previously recordedtwowildlyimpressivewidemargin victories since switching to hisnewstable.Hewilllooktogetback ontrackhereonreturn.

Valens Bruyee signed off the last campaign with a determined victory from a next-time-out winner at Ffos Las and switches to fences from a 7lb higher mark, whilst One More Stroke steps up in trip for his chase debut but did win over a similar trip in a Catterick novice hurdle back in January so it should posenoissues.

EVACUATION PROCEDURE

18 Bangor Racecourse has enhanced Safety & Security measures to ensure your safety, comfort and enjoyment of the day. However, an incident may occur which is beyond our control and it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency.

We employ professionally trained and experienced stewards who are located predominantly around the course and are identifiable by their uniform.

In the event of a situation that requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards.

The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember:

• Take your belongings with you;

• Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.
