A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN SATURDAY 8TH JUNE 2024
Good Afternoon,
Welcome to Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse for our most stylish and glamourous fixture of the year - Ladies Day in partnership with Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet.
Today is all about getting dressed up and enjoying a great day of racing here at North Wales’ only racecourse.
We have an exciting card of seven races for you to watch this afternoon, starting with the Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet Novices’ Hurdle Race at 1.40pm. Our most valuable race of the day is the Brooke-Rankin Ladies Day Novices’ Handicap Steeple Chase at 3.25pm, while our final race is the Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet Open National Hunt Flat Race at 5.10pm.
There will also be plenty of competition off the track too, as we host our popular Best Dressed competition in partnership with Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet. Make sure you enter in the Paddock Enclosure prior to 2.30pm for the chance to win some fantastic prizes.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Ladies Day title sponsor, Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet, for all their support today As the UK’s largest designer outlet, they are the perfect match for our raceday
Our thanks also go to our other sponsors associated with this afternoon’s card of racing - Castle Mews Windows, Golden Sunset Holidays, Brooke Rankin & Co, RW Hough & Sons Ltd and Mike and Jill Medcalf. We really do appreciate your support.
We next race here at Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse on Friday 28th June when we host our Glast-on-Dee Music Night, featuring live performances from Coldplay and Elton John tribute acts. We’ll have Viva La Vida taking to the stage pre-racing and Elite Elton performing after all the racing has finished.
We hope you’ll join us again then.

HOW TO BET WITH A RACECOURSE BOOKMAKER
WAYS TO BET
STRAIGHT EACH WAY
Win only A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.
STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING
In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.
· Fewer than 5 runners – all to win
5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2
· 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3
Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3
· Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
AWAY BETTING
Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)
BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE
At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.
PLACING YOUR BET
Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.
COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS
If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall, Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY.
Tel: 01480 499180
In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

15. A guide to the horse’s recent form and star rating. Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
16. Jockey’s Name. If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

BEST SELECTIONS ON THE DAY
NOT NOW NATHANIEL showed a decent level of ability in bumpers, and she made no mistake when bolting up on her hurdles bow at Aintree last month. Donald McCain’s filly must shoulder a 7lb penalty, but that might not stop her from following up with improvement forthcoming. Chantico achieved a peak rating of 84 when trained on the Flat and he’s of obvious interest now sent over timber, while Upagainstit is also noted.
WIN: NOT NOW NATHANIEL EACHWAY: CHANTICO
A wide-margin winner at Hereford in October, it was a similar story for CAN’T BEAT HISTORY when he defied a 9lb rise at the same track on his seasonal reappearance last month. Henry Oliver’s gelding has a further 8lb hike to contend with, but the low-mileage chaser could have more in the locker and is preferred to Getaway Glory. Aquila Sky finished a creditable third at Chepstow in April and he could find some improvement for the addition of first-time cheekpieces.
WIN: CAN’T BEAT HISTORY
EACHWAY: GETAWAY GLORY
COLLINGHAM was said to have benefitted from a return to quicker conditions when winning at Ludlow last month, so it wasn’t a huge surprise when he was able to follow up over C&D 11 days ago. Given that he was able to score off a mark of 121 in February last year, the six-year-old appears to hold every chance of completing his hat-trick with conditions ideal. Feel The Pinch and Lunar Sovereign are others to consider
WIN: COLLINGHAM
EACHWAY: FEEL THE PINCH
After two second-placed finishes, IN THIS WORLD can make it third-time lucky over fences and could very easily kick on throughout the summer months. Grain d’Oudairies is capable in this discipline and warrants serious thought despite letting favourite backers down when he failed to make all over this C&D last time out Assuming he settles better, the Donald McCain-trained gelding can give the selection most to think about, ahead of last-time-out winners Legendary Day and Breizh River
WIN: IN THIS WORLD
EACHWAY: GRAIN D’OUDAIRIES
The in-form Dan Skelton is a force to be reckoned with at any time of the year, but CLARAROSE epitomises the majority of the trainer’s summer jumpers in that she is open to any amount of improvement. She appears to have been well placed to back up her Warwick romp, despite an 8lb higher mark. Regal And Royal, a comfortable winner over this C&D last month, is feared most ahead of Silverbridge.
WIN: CLARAROSE
EACHWAY: REGAL AND ROYAL
FANCY STUFF beat The Gambler (second) by over eight lengths in this grade over an extended 2m3f at Stratford last month, and she is 8lb higher for that triumph. The daughter of Presenting looks well placed to confirm that form and record a double. Gentle Connections was last seen finishing last of four in a class 4 event at Warwick, but she returns off a 7lb lower mark and has to be considered for the in-form Dan Skelton yard.
WIN: AL SAYAH
EACHWAY: SPECIAL DRAGON
BOLD RECRUIT shaped with bundles of promise when hitting the crossbar on his Rules debut at Southwell last month and he would have learned a great deal from that experience. The five-year-old can find enough improvement to get off the mark, with his main threat possibly being Little Big Kev, who wasn’t disgraced in fourth at Stratford and should give another good account Any market support for Fan Magnet with Brian Hughes booked would be interesting.

Race Summary:
NOT NOW NATHANIEL has an ungainly way of going about things, but this is a decidedly ordinary maiden, so it looks a good opportunity for her to follow up from Aintree. Chantico is a notably interesting hurdling debutant in the context of the race and, providing he settles (can take a keen hold), should prove a big threat to the selection.

Charlie Appleby’s NOBEL DYNASTY has more on his plate than when a stylish Newmarket handicap victor last month but this half-brother to the high-class miler Barney Roy remains with relatively few miles on the clock and is fancied to take the step up in class in his stride. Victoria Cup runner-up Ramazan is another who goes up in grade but rates next best ahead of the consistent Popmaster and last year’s victor Jumby. Mike and Jill Medcalf have supported Bangor on Dee racecourse for 35 years and are pleased to celebrate their joint 70th Birthdays with family and friends, enjoying full racecourse hospitality and also in sponsoring the 4:35pm Handicap Steeple Chase.
During their time at Bangor they ran the Bangor on Dee Racing Club, enjoying moderate success with "Top of the Dee", who was placed in several National Hunt hurdles locally and won two Point to Points.
These days Jill spends her time golfing and gardening. Mike runs a team of Gundogs on local shoots, his spaniels now also promote their own "Althrey Gundog Gin"

Race Summary:
FANCY STUFF landed a few tidy bets when bolting up at Stratford just under 3 weeks ago and an 8lb rise may not be enough to prevent her from going in again. She gets the nod ahead of chasing-debutante Emily’s Choice, who won her first couple of starts over hurdles and can have a line put through her handicap debut at Uttoxeter 9 weeks ago (lost a shoe). Admiral’s Sunset can edge out Rory’s Story for third place.
