A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

TUESDAY 28TH MAY 2024

Good evening,

Welcome to Bangor-on-Dee for Family Fun Evening. We’re delighted to welcome families back to the racecourse for an evening of thrilling racing and fun activities for all to enjoy

We have six exciting races on the card today, plus a pony race. The day kicks off at 5.10pm with the 148cm PRA Pony Race, where we get to see star jockeys in the making take to the track. The first race is the Minimum £50,000 Tote Placepot Everyday Novices’ Hurdle race at 5.50pm. At 7.25pm horses take to the track to compete for the highest prize pot of the evening, the Camden Stout Novices’ Limited Handicap Steeple Chase, with a total value of £15,000 The evening then draws to a close at 8.25pm with the Visit Irish Store Sale with ITM Mares’ Handicap Hurdle race.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank this evening’s sponsors, Tote, Becks, Camden Stout, and Irish Thoroughbred Marketing. All at Bangoron-Dee are grateful for your continued support.

I hope we can welcome you back to Bangor-on-Dee for Ladies Day on the 8th June. It’s set to be one of the most glamourous fixtures of the year, so be sure to don your favourite outfit for a fabulous day out at North Wales only racecourse.

HOW TO BET WITH A RACECOURSE BOOKMAKER

WAYS TO BET

STRAIGHT EACH WAY

Win only A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.

STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

· Fewer than 5 runners – all to win

5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

· 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

· Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

AWAY BETTING

Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)

BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE

At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.

COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS

If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall, Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY.

Tel: 01480 499180

In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

16. Jockey’s Name. If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

BEST SELECTIONS ON THE DAY

VALGRAND displayed a high level of ability in bumpers and he made a seamless transition to hurdling when winning at Uttoxeter earlier this month. Despite the penalty, the five-year-old appears to have been found an ideal opportunity to follow up. Speed Davis must also shoulder a penalty but he is still the main danger, while Touchwoodexpress is most appealing of the remainder.

WIN: VALGRAND

EACHWAY: SPEED DAVIS

Although Le Cameleon has not been at his very best in recent starts, the nine-year-old finds himself on a competitive mark and should fare better eased in class on his second outing following wind surgery. Bagheera Ginge proved to be largely consistent over the larger obstacles last year and is worth considering ahead of his return, but it is LIPA K that shades preference. The son of Mamool made a successful fencing bow over an extended 2m1f here last month, so a 6lb rise might not be enough to stop him with improvement likely

WIN: LIPA K

EACHWAY: LE CAMELEON

A step up in trip might hold the key to ELECTRIC JET’s chances, and he is taken to build on a couple of promising efforts in maiden company now sent handicapping off a workable mark. Newtonian was on target over 3m1f at Warwick earlier this month and should be more than capable raised just 3lb in the ratings, while others to note include Josie Alice and Minniemum.

WIN: ELECTRIC JET

EACHWAY: NEWTONIAN

6

An interesting field includes the classy hurdler HOMETOWN BOY, who was a Grade 3 winner over the smaller obstacles. Third on his debut over fences, the nine-year-old fell at Newbury in February but may be worth another chance after three months off. Flaming Ambition won’t be stopping over this trip judged on his narrow Uttoxeter victory and, from nearer the bottom of the weights, he could rival Stratford second Watergrange Jack in the race for the places.

HOMETOWN BOY

Donald McCain has a good recent record in this race and Forcing Bull is one to note with Brian Hughes booked. Pulled up on his only two starts last season, the seven-year-old could do better if he settles here, but may have to give way to TEDLEY. Fourth in a higher grade at Hexham last time, he races off the same mark now and could make the most of the weaker opposition. Collingham and Finest View might battle it out for third spot

WIN: TEDLEY

EACHWAY: FORCING BULL

AL SAYAH is looking for a hat-trick under a 7lb penalty but Dylan Johnston’s 5lb claim will help with that. An easy nine-length winner at Hereford on Friday, she is turned out quickly and could strike again at this level. Barrons Land may take them along and set the race up for the selection, although Special Dragon won with some ease at Ludlow and may prove the bigger danger

WIN: AL SAYAH

EACHWAY: SPECIAL DRAGON

EVACUATION PROCEDURE

18 Bangor Racecourse has enhanced Safety & Security measures to ensure your safety, comfort and enjoyment of the day. However, an incident may occur which is beyond our control and it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency.

We employ professionally trained and experienced stewards who are located predominantly around the course and are identifiable by their uniform.

In the event of a situation that requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards.

The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember:

• Take your belongings with you;

• Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.
